"The new platform, W, will require identification and photo validation" oh so it's basically Chat Control but disguised as a 'new social network'. Got it. https://cybernews.com/tech/europe-social-media-w/

I have been procastinating installing my new phone because I really wanted to use the phone migration momentum to start my #digitalsovereignty journey. Took me all evening but I'm proud to say I finally moved all my phone pics backup away from Google Photos by running Immich on own Hetzner cloud server with a Storage Box mounted over SSHFS 🥵 Next step: Moving my computer backup away from Google Drive to NextCloud! #doeidag

RE: https://todon.eu/@tek/116489975212684711 This is shocking, #rightscon is really important moment for civil society and human rights defenders to gather, and the space keeps shrinking and shrinking... Ever since Trump's slashing of USAID it's like all bets are off for great powers to annihilate the work of NGOs (it's speculated that China put pressure on Zambia, this year's host of the conference, because there were going to be Taiwanese delegates)

Getting back into blogging this year, and I’m starting with the online discourse RE: the disturbing CNN story on the “rape academy” and the misnumbered “62 million men” participating. There’s a tension between accuracy and activism that occurs when details of a story get distorted and mischaracterized in the trickling down of news. “What good does it do to demand factual purity from protesters who are faced with violence on a daily basis?” https://nathalievanraemdonck.com/2026/04/21/factcheckin...

Titillating talk by @couldrynick at @zemki on corporate capture of the human mind of AI. Interesting how defending the use of AI is seen by some as "post-structuralism" whereas resistance is framed as remainder humanism. I agree with Nick's plea to build conversations on the social contract that is emerging through our uses of AI, although I am left wondering what then is and isn't useful AI, or if our only option is to resort to abstinence and resistance.
