Just “discovered” the Merged Features renderer. What a neat, handy feature! Kudos to whoever came up with that one. And yes, it’s been around for quite a while already, since around 2021, I believe 😊. It is just that there is so much to discover in QGIS. But hey, as long as you find it when you actually need it. 🙂 #qgis #osgeo #openSource #gis #cartography https://docs.qgis.org/3.40/en/docs/user_manual/working_with_vector/vector_properties.html#merged-features-renderer

I've created two new GRASS addons to facilitate the exchange of raster styles between QGIS and GRASS: r.colors.qml and `r.colors.toqml`. 🎨 r.colors.qml: Apply QGIS QML style files directly to your GRASS rasters. 🔄 r.colors.toqml: Export GRASS color tables and categories back to QML for use in QGIS. Just posted a short how-to on turning Dutch NDFF biodiversity data 🌿📊 into species-richness heatmaps using QGIS and GDAL. Covers the basics: removing duplicates, filtering blurred records, dissolving per species, and rasterizing. Also a weighted variant for those who want to account for spatial precision. The NDFF data has been freely accessible since 2025, so it is a good time to start playing with it 🗺️ 👉 https://ecodiv.earth/post/NDFF_heatmaps/ #qgis #openSource #gdal

It was great to connect with the open source geo community at the [FOSS4G.NL 2025](https://foss4g.nl/). The event highlighted innovative open-source projects and collaborations. I presented on [GRASS](https://grass.osgeo.org/) in education and research, outlining its current state and sharing examples of how I use it in my classes and research at the HAS green academy. Just updated my 'Species Distribution Modeling in GRASS' reader 📘. Right in time for our upcoming module for my 'Earth, data-analysis and visualization students at #HASgreenacademy 😅 Mostly small changes about the organization of results. The least exciting part of modeling, but it can absolutely mess up your workflow if not done right. Hopefully this lands before students learn that the hard way. 🤔 https://ecodiv.earth/TutorialsNotes/sdmingrassgis/ #SDM #Teaching #R...

Just published a tutorial about using GRASS for a viewshed workflow that employs an observer-relevant surface to selectively represent obstructions that effectively block line of sight at pedestrian height. This derived layer is then used to perform a cumulative viewshed analysis. Check it out here: https://ecodiv.earth/post/intervisibility/ #grassgis #osgeo #ahn #viewshed @grassgis
