Don’t worry it’s not going to happen. They’re just after investing money then they’ll vanish. Even if they actually build this, a very small area of the planet is going to be imperceptibly brighter for 35 seconds.

I wouldn’t worry, we’re at least a century away from that happening.

Don’t make more moronic comments and I’ll be happy

At least we’re not being run by neutral Nazis. Admittedly it’s a pretty low bar but I think we just about passed over that one.

And you made the counter arguement so succinctly as well.

It’s telling that if someone powerful like a politician actually does their job, they’re hailed by the general public as a hero.

I’m guessing because China isn’t producing the type of RAM they want. Put it this way, when the AI bubble bursts we aren’t going to have a load of RAM and GPUs suddenly available, because the AI data centre versions aren’t in a format that’s useful in consumer tech, or even all the data centre systems. They are optimised towards AI workloads and don’t really work in normal computer systems. Equally that means that if the RAM that’s been produced isn’t in this AI workload optimised format, then t...

Nobody ever seems to mention where the waste will go Because it’s a solved problem. Only conspiracy theories think it’s hard problem

Yusuf is actively pursuing policies that would result in his deportation if ever implemented, and he’s the owner of the party. Cause and effect don’t really have causal relationships in their minds.

Why is Vance on bluesky? It’s where all the people he hates hang out.

Can the AI just talk in a lower voice? I don’t see why this is that critical. The media really can’t get it can they I’m fine with AI having problems, I’m supposed to feel sorry for them upsetting some way but I just don’t.

Online banking does this all of the time. It’s surprising how little you can actually do on their app, virtually every common banking task requires you to call them. I had to call them to set up an automatic payment on my credit card from my savings account. Because I couldn’t work out how to do it on the app. I confirmed with the support agent that you can’t do it on the app.

For me the solution is simply to just not own a printer. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve had to print something in the last year. Anyway that’s what parents are for, their house is where you store things you only occasionally want.

They’re all invested in each other, a threat to one is a threat to all and up until now the regime hasn’t threatened their investments. Seriously there’s a graph somewhere showing who’s invested in what and basically it’s all just one thing now. I don’t know why they maintain the charade of being separate companies. And the reason they don’t want their technology being used to kill people is because they don’t trust the administration to keep it to foreign countries where no one cares what h...

How? If I’m a teenager on Instagram and I’ll start looking up this kind of content how is Instagram going to contact my parents, how do they even know who my parents are, they don’t even know who I am, I’m just a username.

My understanding is that the RAM architecture is built around insanely quick read write access but doesn’t really store data for more than three or four seconds at a time. Most modern programs expect the RAM to hold on to the data for basically however long they need until they access it. So most programs just won’t fit into memory configured like that, and I think it’s a hardware thing, not something you can change with software.

These people aren’t early adopters. These people are doing the equivalent of putting a lump of uranium in a bucket, and calling it a nuclear reactor. AI is our version of the demon core, and these idiots are dicking around with it with zero safety precautions. Meanwhile the rest of us are just smart enough to not go in that room.

Zuckerberg just wants to build his own universe way he’s in charge of everything and everything costs money and there no taxes. You can bet there were picture ideas such as paying people with game money.

A lot of those plans very much in the “assume a spherical chicken in a vacuum” territory. They only work on paper, and tend to assume things like criminal gangs are randomly just sort of going to get out of the way and not interfere. Also there are no corrupt government officials, and the people you are trying to help actually recognise that, and respond positively.

This article is so stupid rmdir isn’t some magical military grade file eraser. It literally just flags the disc space as available, that’s it. Claiming these files are unrecoverable is like claiming that you have snapped someone out of existence, when you just delete them from your contacts. The user in question was using AI to delete files, it probably took them longer to ask the AI to do it than it would have done for them to have just gone into the final browser and deleted them themselves,...

It’s not that we think that everyone on a .ml instance is a bad person it’s just that if you don’t watch your back you end up talking to a bunch of people who think that mass murder and war crimes and acceptable as long as their friends are the ones doing it. And they are unfortunately they are also on .ml and to tar everyone with the same brush. It’s why a lot of instances are defederating which sucks for you of course because none of it is your fault.
