yay, Elastica are back and going to release new music. Elastica... the band who almost run my sorry homeless ass over when I was sleeping in the Hacienda car park in late 1993, and apologised by feeding me from their rider before then shooting me a lot during Laserquest. I went on tour with them many times, and they never made one bad record and in Justin Welch they have the best drummer I ever saw, and in Annie one of the best bassists (ignoring problems with drugs)... and in Donna a gem of a...

Anyone have a field in a UK dark sky area that I can leave a shipping container in? Ideally around hay-on-wye or something like that. It's a non permanent structure, but if you happen to have 16A power and a water supply even better.

I just accidentally missed my mouth and poured water down myself. How's your day going?

Wow, just eaten my first full meal in 5 days, and I really needed that. I already feel like I'm more alive.

Is there such a thing as rfid airtags? I want to put rfid stickers on a bunch of things, register what those things are in an app, and then register what I have on me. I.e. stickers on things I travel with, down to nice shampoo and conditioner, and then when I do a scan it will create a collection switch I can call "hotel room", and after I leave the room I can scan and it will tell me what it can't find... I.e. that I've left the expensive conditioner again. Not full air...

Two weeks to needing to stopping HRT 4 weeks before bottom surgery... My levels were very high and it's a DVT risk amplifier. I know this means stopping estrogen, but does it mean stopping progesterone too? 🤔 I've no real clue as to the effect of this, I assume an emotional crash. Anyone been through this? #deevagina

Do we think this deodorises the toilet or my ass? 🤔

Swapped hotels, I liked the Shibuya one which was modest, but now compelled to move into a 5 star one near the conference center which I already dislike as it feels like half an Italian mountain was excavated to supply the marble. Baggage was heavy so opted for £100 taxi ride which was also fun. So much of the Tokyo road system is layered too, with elevated sections running for long spans, and they feel like tunnels as they are walled to suppress noise pollution for the areas they pass through.

Hey everyone say hi to @sena@chaosfem.tw who is new to fedi. Recently egg cracked, just started HRT and living in Tokyo, and very disconnected from any trans community as things are different in Japan especially if you are a Westerner. We spent most of yesterday evening chatting about the first year and beyond on estrogen, providing tips that help navigate various stages, and also talking about how difficult it is to feel connected to community. So I recommended fedi... Which is not a silve...

Feeling a bit isolated and lonely in Tokyo, would've been nice to meet people and have a chat and be social. I figure work will kick in today, but that's not the same as chatting to queer and fun folk. On the 9th August I arrive in Toronto, and have the Sunday evening free. Do I know anyone in Toronto who might want to grab a bite to eat and chat for a while?

I've always had detachment from my body, not felt connected to it. This started to change with transitioning, but it's area focused. I like my boobs, I like the waist that has emerged, my butt looks great from every angle (so I'm reliably told). But the detachment remains. I measured as 25.2 BMI 6 weeks ago, now I measure it as 22.5 BMI. I can do this as I don't care about how my body feels or suffers, I don't care about the whole of it, just bits of it. I feel like what...

I've done the very gay thing of buying some clothes because I thought they were sexy and hot (a certain colourway of Strauss)... only to be told this is the colourway my partner has. I am dumb, I am very gay for her, it was snuck into my subconscious so far as to say "that colourway is really hot, you should get it"... I am gay for her.

I can no longer say that I haven't experienced direct transphobia and hate... In the street near where I live too. It sucks, a lot.

Finally in my post-EMF "let's think about the next bit of travel" mode, looking up weather in Tokyo. It'll be 34-40'c with tropical thunderstorms and torrential rain. My wardrobe has nothing for this combination... I fly in 48 hours and have no chance to change this.

this is now my surgery thread... starting to write this almost 2 months prior having to go through the pre-surgery information is a bit strange... I'm learning about the various types of general anaesthesia. I have never experienced a general, so I'm naturally most nervous about this aspect of the surgery. oh... September 14th... less than 2 months away.

I'm a little overwhelmed by my next month... EMF, to run the planetarium, give a talk (ad-lib), participate in a star party, help run a few other errands. Tokyo and Yokohama, for kubecon booth, 3 talks (no material ready), some customers, and 3 hotels in a week mostly in Shibuya. Toronto, for work thing, 8 talks (material prepped), social events. And between those things the opera, Cate Le Bon, helping London queer swap, a senior leadership meeting and board meeting prep, other work thi...

My talk at the festival (bodgeham-on-wye) within the festival (#emfcamp) had been accepted. Confirmation of time to follow. It's an Ad-lib story telling of my origin story in tech, which for reasons that don't make a lot of sense involved a sizeable part of the mid 1990s music industry and some fun stories about how I won a Brit award and other shenanigans. It will not be recorded.

Hey, are you going to #emfcamp ? Are you interested in making custom content for the #Planetarium ? If so, let me know... I can help you with the content requirements, and help you with formats, and also schedule time for your content. The theme of EMF is Space... but the planetarium doesn't only have to show the usual stars and things, it's a 360 degree immersive experience and planetarium dome and we can show any content in it. The usual ideas: Constellations (maybe presented in a...

my weekend so far: drove to South Wales with telescope and tent, failed to put up the tent as I didn't bring a pump, failed to put up the telescope as I didn't bring the mount. Fixed the window in a cottage, and trapped and released a spider named Frank, played drafts against a 10y old (I won, and then felt guilty and I won again, I really tried hard the third time and finally lost), we slept in on Saturday and I popped into Hay-on-Wye and bought cider for EMF Camp (in plastic, so safe t...

those airtag things... the only apple hardware I have is an iPad, do they fully work without an iPhone, Mac or other device, just an iPad?

@helle good morning, I realise I'm quite excited by the prospect of meeting you at emf after following you for so long, I hope you come say hi (you can see what I look like, I've no idea what you look like). I also hope the build goes well 💜 and that you have the energy, and the weather plays nice, that the nice skirts come out

Braving rush hour public transport only for it all to be fine, and then on my way to Wimbledon I stop in at a coffee shop only to be served by such a cutie who compliments me on my style and name 🥰

I forgot the US have a holiday this Friday and found myself in a meeting last night with lots of USians and they reminded me that it's "a holiday to celebrate the divorce from your country"... so I congratulated them, paused, and thought... "do you find yourself regretting that?". The whole meeting nodding away and hands on foreheads and just down about the whole state of US politics recently. Yeah... not that the UK is any better, but somehow not quite as bad either....

Adventures in Linux, the only thing I don't have a good alternative to is DxO Photolab... Which I still run Windows for. Why I like it: corrects lens distortions including fixing pincushion effects, at the same as doing the color correction and export. Hmm... Wonder if it works on Wine

Went out in the shortest of shorts under a sleeveless dress that pre-op would be too revealing... it's too damn hot for anything more than this much clothing, and I was dreading it... would I be stared at? clocked a lot? comments made? Nope, none of that... several compliments from really cute women at the counters of the ice cream place and the organic store, a lovely conversation about Simone de Beauvoir in the book store, all supplies picked up without issue, a good chat with an old woma...

How does one hire a post-operative/post-surgery carer? Specifically looking for London, UK in Autumn, and for an AFAB queer or a trans carer for obvs reasons (it's bottom surgery and I have historic trauma with cis-men). Anyone know how to approach this? Or know someone who has done this?
