> Google Earth on the web now has image generation built in. It went live today, worldwide, for everyone, with no waitlist and no application. > You open Google Earth. You zoom to any coordinates on the planet. You click [create image]. You type what you want to see. The model takes Google’s satellite, aerial and 3D imagery of that exact spot as its starting point and gives you back a photorealistic picture. If it isn’t quite right you refine it. https://www.digitaldigging.org/p/how-to-p...

Seen on #Bluesky : yes, of course our pixel slop extruder can create maps! “One of the largest "news" accounts on Twitter (that Elon Musk promotes constantly) posted about Ukraine using an AI generated map. The map gets worse and worse the more you stare at it.”

IntelliJ IDEA is using 31 GB of RAM and burning through 98% of my CPU. There’s no progressbar or other activity indicator in sight. I’m starting to think those clowns poisoned my license key or something.

meatgrinder goes brrrrrr > “Our intelligence is consistent with some of the open-source reporting you may have seen in Ukraine: the average life expectancy of a Russian recruit right now, arriving on the battlefield in Ukraine, is estimated to be between 20 and 30 minutes,” the Central Intelligence Agency chief [John Ratcliffe] said at the Pennsylvania Defense and Innovation Summit on Wednesday. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2026-07-15/cia-says-ai-drones-give-russian-troops-only-...

Aren’t you tired of website operators showing the audacity to throw Anubis, Iocaine, and other roadblocks in your way? Well, your troubles are over! With our innovative ‘SETI-for-scraping’ solution, you can ingest all the data from that obnoxious website using gajillions of one-shot IPs and leave the admins in a white hot impotent rage! Teehee!”

I just clicked View -> Appearance -> and IntelliJ IDEA completely froze instead of showing the submenu. How the fuck does this even happen. I had to Force Quit it from the Mac’s Activity Monitor.

Every time the degenerate governments in the US opened some website for snitching on other people, there were comments about automated solutions to spam those systems with gibberish. I know because I myself made such comments more than once. Now the shoe is on the other foot. Europeans should start running those same systems 24/7 to frustrate #ChatControl implementations.

“Impossible to predict this”, says the CxO class that keeps ignoring all predictions of this exact outcome > As one New York financier told Financial Times journalist Gillian Tett, new hires who were seen as “AI natives” are turning out to have alarmingly shallow ideas. So much so, the anonymous finance worker admitted, that his firm now actively avoids seeking out AI-literate STEM graduates, and opts to comb through humanities students instead. https://futurism.com/future-society/college-...

Found on #Bluesky (research paper, paywalled): > Does Social Media Use Really Matter for Students’ Well-Being? The Cross-Cultural Generalizability Across 52 Societies > data from 52 countries/regions (N = 384,061 students) […] showed that general use of social media had a trivial association with life satisfaction and positive affect, but not meaning in life […]. The results are well generalizable across different countries/regions. https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10902-026-0...
