  I just spent 3 hours deciphering a junction box with 4 NM (Romex) cables and a light fixture, AMA. Turns out: 1) There’s a second light fixture paralleled across this one. 2) There’s a switch leg on the neutral, which makes my eye twitch a little. 3) The remaining NM is feeding at least one box elsewhere. That doesn’t seem that bad, but a) the switch leg means white != white, and b) wire nuts max out at 3 conductors so the fixture also acts as a terminal block.

  More people need to understand that “enterprise-grade” mostly has the same valence as “military-grade”. People without military experience think “military-grade” means built for the most demanding conditions. People with military experience think “meets a possibly-not-relevant spec as cheaply as possible.”

That was 2020, and I am still managing the residual neuralgia. It also tripped me over into long COVID, which you also don’t want. To be clear, I am incredibly lucky to have had excellent and accurate care, and I’m much less impacted than many folks. But don’t take medical advice from people who want you dead. Get...
