  I just got a mail from #storj where they announced that they will raise prices. The worst thing about this is their new minimum monthly price of $50 compared to the $5 before. This makes it pretty much useless as an offsite backup for me. They say the global supply shortages forced them. Now I have to migrate all my backups to a new service. For now it looks like that will be iDrive e2. #sysadmin #homelab #backup

  Maybe unpopular music take: I wish after the intro from Welcome To The Jungle they wouldn't play Welcome To The Jungle. The intro guitar and base lines are so fast and high energy and then the put on the breaks and it gets boring.   I just bought myself a #saxophone and started learning. I always wanted to learn to play the sax but in my childhood I only got to try out the clarinet. There is some knowledge still stuck that is transferable but I have to learn all the fingerings and how not to squeak. There are a lot of buttons but it's fun so far. I no longer want to put off the things I want to do when I have the means for them. #music #YoloButNotTheStupidOne #hobby

  A wired telephone is also a technical marvel in a way. It's easy to forget but in many cases there is a physical line between you and the person on the other side. So if you call someone around the world you could potentially follow the electrical signal through cables, through the ground, through the sea and get to the person on the other side. It's easy to get lost in the abstraction but this physical connection is an absolute marvel that is a joy to visualize for me.

  I thought my server was too slow for all the services I was hosting on it. It was getting more and more sluggish. Turns out my #postgresql server only needed a full vacuum and reindex. Runs like a charm now. #sysadmin #selfhosting #maintenance

Und dann haben sich die Telefone verbogen und waren teurer und dann haben wir kollektiv entschieden dass das keinen Sinn macht. Aber wenn Apple anfängt müssen die anderen hinter.

  @holger@hellinger.wtf @VQuaschning@mastodon.green Dabei ist das ja ganz einfach: Tagsüber speichern wir den Strom in Batterien und nachts scheinen wir dann mit Flutlichtanlagen den Strom aus den Batterien auf die Solarzellen damit die dann Strom erzeugen können. Ich meine dass ist so einfach. Da hätte der Hans einfach mal nachdenken können.

Apart from the abysmal "well to wheel" efficiency the whole distribution of hydrogen seems like such a hassle. For a gas station it's usually pretty easy to just put up a few chargers but for Hydrogen you have to build new tanks and special pumps and have to organize shipments. And for what? Faster refueling? I can't see how that will ever take off.

  #TechTip: If you have an Android Phone with Android 14 or later you probably have a pretty decent USB webcam on your hand. If you connect your phone via USB to a PC you get a popup on your phone and when you tap on it you can select "Webcam" and your phone will be available as a normal USB camera to your system. I confirmed it working on Windows and Linux and depending on the camera in your phone you get a very good picture. #tech #android #tips #camera

  I really like Veeam''s Backup solution especially on Linux because of the image based backups even with ext4. What I don't like ist the limited scheduling options. For that purpose I used some bash scripting and some SystemD units to help me out.   Ich mag die Backup Lösung von Veeam sehr. Vor allem unter Linux kann man damit leicht Image-Basierte Backups machen selbst mit ext4. Leider ist das Scheduling gerade unter Linux nicht gut.
