#writever 6-Storm The solar storms occurred following a pattern that repeated itself so regularly that flights to and from Planet Ares were suspended from June till October, when Star Balki had the most eruptions; the native populations slept in their homes underground all day, only coming out at night when their other blue star Malki rose; they held festivities that kept humans awake all night, which meant they had to vacate the planet over that period.

#mutantpen 1- Charon The children could not wait to travel to the other side of Pluto and see its moon, Charon, for the first time in real life; Pluto and Charon were tidally locked which meant they always presented the same face to each other; the side of Pluto that saw Charon at all time was also the most affluent; the higher castes had wanted to have the moon in their sky to lit up their nights and reinforce their privileged status while the lower castes slept in the dark of moonless nights.

#mutantpen 2- Kuiper Belt The Trans-Neptunian Region was long believed to hold the secrets of the formation of the Solar System but the gloomy and obscure Kuiper Belt had been hijacked by greedy corporations that had turned it into a graveyard; space folks and spaceships were taken there to die and be dismantled; they didn’t take what they had seen and experienced in space back to Terra Prima to feed its inhabitants’ dreams; each world orbiting the Sun was a slave colony.

#mutantpen 3-Nitrogen There was almost no air left at the surface of the planet as the nitrogen had frozen solid and fallen as snow, covering Pluto in silence; the Murgurs were not native to the planet but had adapted; they allowed themselves to be frozen and remained inside the ice until the planet warmed itself again.

#mutantpen 4- Tombaugh It was rather ironic that a penal colony, named after Clyde Tombaugh, the discoverer of Pluto, had been established in the plain of Tombaugh Regio, also colloquially known as “Pluto’s Heart”; it was also known as the toughest institution of its kind, housing criminals and being run by killers in uniforms; the AI that created the brand design logo for the prison, was known for having a cynical and twisted sense of humour, as the graphic featured a raised fist in a heart.

#mutantpen 5-Perihelion Perihelion had started in earnest; with the automated factories pumping oxygen into the atmosphere, it wasn’t subjected to the cycle of freezing and reforming anymore, every time the little planet was taken closer to or further from the sun; but savage winds raged instead and would do so for twenty years; all the towns and villages had seemingly disappeared from the surface; like the other inhabitants, Chris had lowered the pod so its entrance would be lined up 1/2

#mutantpen 6-Methane “What made Pluto Pluto had been lost in the terraforming process; the methane dunes had gone, as the sudden heat caused the methane to vaporise, turn into clouds and rain down; the mountains of rock solid water ice had melted and covered the surface of the planet with oceans; we were still not sure who the Idragors were and where they came from; but it seemed they considered Pluto one of their home worlds and they had already adapted themselves to the new conditions.

#mutantpen 7-Dwarf planet Can you believe that after crash landing on some ridiculous dwarf planet, that isn’t even referenced in the Great Cosmic Cartography, and sending a distress signal, not only did the rescue services not turn up but I got a ticket for so-called illegal parking from an overzealous traffic warden who then fucked off, leaving me well and truly stranded for an extra 24 hours Universal time.

#mutantpen 8- New Horizons “Do you remember he had a hit with that song? Do you know the one I mean?” He thought briefly before replying “New Horizons?” She smiled; “Yeah that’s the one… I don’t know the chords for it but I can work them out on the rocktor.” “Typical Kuiper Juice era track” he said as he executed some flams on his snare drum; “Did you know the song is about a space probe?” he added with a smile. “No, I didn’t” she admitted and, as she grabbed her guitar “Let’s make it our own”

#mutantpen 9- Haze The sun, looking much smaller than on Eath, rose and set in a blue haze; the artificial intelligence controlling the probes had beamed spectacular images to Terra Prima but, to ground control's dismay, it had also claimed the planet for itself and declared that it would do everything and anything to prevent humanity from ever setting foot on it.

#mutantpen 10- Lowell The astronomical symbol for Pluto are the initials of Percival Lowell; the American astronomer devoted the last years of his life to the search of Planet X that he believed was disrupting the movements of Uranus and Neptune; Clyde Tombaugh discovered Pluto at the Lowell Observatory, founded by Percival Lowell, in 1930 but the observatory took pictures of Pluto in 1915, without anybody realising Pluto was not a star.
