As it turns out... #Proton is financing (through advertising) some elements of the far right :( . https://www.reddit.com/r/degoogle/comments/1tzbizh/proton_is_funding_the_french_far_right_on_youtube/ I've always been sceptical about this bunch, but given the lack of alternatives we ended up using their services in our coop, we labelled them as "the lesser evil" at the time so we could make a decision and jump to the next topic, and... Oh surprise (irony), it's...

    So... not many people will be surprised, #Google has done it again, it has crossed a big red line this time. They already made it so that using their "share" feature from Chrome browser in Android would introduce their own tracking link, betraying unsuspecting users. That in itself was infuriating, but at least we had an escape hatch, we could copy the web page URL and share that directly.... until now. It is no longer possible to copy URLs from the browser's URL bar...

    Some of my latest work on the #SoulCraftedSlicer for #Resin3dPrinting : displaying warning visual cues when the object lays partially or totally outside of the printing volume. https://codeberg.org/SoulCrafted/Slicer #3dprinting #floss #openSource

    RE: https://mastodon.social/@lobsters/115741596746900837 This, kids, is why when relying on containers, we should ensure that (at least): 1. Their filesystem is READONLY (example: if you are using Python, generate your .pyc files when creating your OCI image, not at runtime) 2. They run under a non-privileged user And, at the host & network levels: 3. The private network is properly segmented. 4. We have firewall rules to control outgoing traffic and traffic between subnets. This is n...

    @dequbed @zkat I see it's up now. What happened?

    I'm reading Kurt Vonnegut's "Galapagos". This is a novel from **1985**... and, while it's not "great", I'd still recommend it for anyone living this current time, plus, it's kinda funny. It manages to: - describe AI techno-bros as what they are: self-centred assholes. - (shallowly) describe incels before those were a concept in our collective imagination. - (very subtly) establish a clear connection between all those s...

    I'm happy to announce that since today I'll be leading the development of the #OpenSource SoulCrafted Slicer for resin 3D printers: https://codeberg.org/SoulCrafted/ Note: The tech coop is still a thing! We are going live soon! SoulCrafted is our first commercial project (as contractors) ✨ . Lots of work to do! #3dPrinting

    It's not like I'm entirely surprised by this https://openai.com/index/openai-to-acquire-astral/ But I find it quite sad. These mega-corporations are trying to own all our stack... we should find ways to build community alternatives to avoid falling into their trap... But first we should learn our lessons about what constitutes good software. PIP has never been good, that's why `uv`, `ruff` and `ty` are an interesting purchase for #OpenAI. That's the kind of sof...

    Slowly, but without pause, our #FLOSS slicer for resin #3dPrinting is starting to take shape :) . https://codeberg.org/SoulCrafted/Slicer However, we are not alone, there are other people trying to bring new open source solutions to this space. In a few days the #OpenResinAlliance ( https://openresin.org/ ) will release a first early access version to their backers on April 1st (no joke), and an open beta on on May 1st. They started long before we typed our first line of code. So far, from w...

    @zkat After many discussions and observing people talking about it... I came to the conclusion that it makes sense to treat it as a nascent religion (same applies to capitalism, except for the "nascent" adjective, but that's another story). Facts & reasoning alone might not be enough to combat the rhetoric of those pushing for LLMs & gen AI for everything. Sadly, we might need another creed to ensure effective pushback. Idk, I think I'd be OK...
