We're super lucky to be surrounded by productive, fertile land, and that local chefs and farmers forge relationships. But there are a handful of local restaurants for whom farm to table means growing some of the ingredients they cook with. #Food #EatLocal #WaterlooRegion #PerthCounty #FarmToTable https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/kitchener-waterloo/farm-to-table-willibald-farm-brian-mccourt-d-d-s-smoked-eats-denis-hernandez-graze-farm-dinners-9.7274068

It's pick-your-own season. With lots of farms letting you harvest your own fresh produce, I spoke with ABSOLUTELY LOVELY farmers about their patches and the Ps&Qs of PYO (hint: there should be more in your basket than in your belly) #Food #Agriculture #WaterlooRegion #PerthCounty https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/kitchener-waterloo/pick-your-own-farm-purple-blossom-lavender-farm-thames-river-melons-hoffmans-strawberries-tnt-berries-9.7265842

Happy Canada Day! The Indigenous flag was designed by artist Curtis Wilson (d 2019). The renowned artist was born and raised in the Ligwilda’xw territories and he was a member of the Wei Wai Kum First Nation in Campbell River. No food column this week -- I was felled by a blargh (and still sound like a 70yo smoker who's been lighting up for 80 years). Here's one my nurses, who still thinks I should be horizontal...as it's easier to keep an eye on me (and use me as a pillow) Back next week, talking about tasty things.

RIP Stephen Lewis I had the honour* of listening to him speak and meeting him years ago, when he came to Waterloo on a book tour. An absolutely lovely man, and an amazing orator, who did so much for Canada. *I rarely use the word "honour", but in this case, it was. https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/stephen-lewis-obituary-9.7148606
