I am now the proud owner of a MIDI controller and I have found out how to finagle it (with some difficulty) with LMMS

https://bsky.app/profile/gettoknownature.bsky.social/post/3mr4atarpi22l For anyone who enjoys nature photos and wishes to avoid slop, I highly recommend this thread, and it's very similar to the approach I take. Basically: Look for actual photographers, avoid generic "cute nature" accounts if they don't cite sources properly, and check if the species being published come from a location that makes sense (e.g. all European birds if the photographer is from Europe) I think esp...

Ooohh so I do get notifications from the server offline time, they can just sometimes come in a bit delayed I saw some new notifications coming in as I was drafting the previous post, don't think a bunch of people suddenly became active this time of day

For #Codeberg members: In the wake of finding my software in The Stack I'm going to raise the issue of requiring FLOSS licenses when FLOSS licenses grant access to any use-case, when I (and I suspect other devs) want to be able to use licenses that forbid AI training. The discussion is at https://codeberg.org/Codeberg-e.V./Discussion/issues/195, I don't think it's available to non-members. I want to turn it into a formal proposal and don't quite know how. I would appreciate help...

I want to work on a fix πŸ₯Ί πŸ‘‰ πŸ‘ˆ (I joke, but one of the ideas on the Project Pile I have is to build a Mastodon/GoToSocial/Fediverse client that addresses it)

#EMFCamp :boost_requested: This is a ridiculously long shot but I met someone at camp then met them again the next day (or was it the day after?) and my brain had a ridiculously embarassing DID/faceblindness "do I know you?" moment. A shame because I don't think we ran into each other at camp afterwards 😭. I was the person in a labcoat and glowing cat ears (which I think narrows it down enough to recognise me). Anyway if you are that person please do reach out!

#AskFedi Β I came across a study a while ago which had considerable evidence that LLM autocomplete can shift the views of users without users realising their views have shifted. I want to talk about it in my upcoming essay. I can't find this study; DuckDuckGo and Google Scholar aren't helping. Can anyone help me dig it up?

"ai is inevitable" "ai is here to stay" etc etc etc even when it heats up the planet even when it causes suicides even when it eats up ram like potato chips who says it is inevitable? who says it is here to stay? are they the ones pushing it everywhere, by any chance? because at the end of the day it is a giant computer there must be an "off" button somewhere what, exactly, stops us from pressing it?

@crafters Another question! Any recommendations for artists of #embroidery patterns? Looking to find some interesting patterns for my next project, preferably smaller ones so I can carry my embroidery with me (i.e. ones that fit on 10-20cm wide fabric), and definitely no slop

What's ethnographically interesting about vibe coding is that while vibe code proponents liken LLMs to the next abstraction up from compilers, nobody is passing around prompts. Everyone is passing around the extrusion created by said LLMs. It's like inventing compilers, but exclusively passing around the assembly code, and then using decompilers to figure out what the assembly code does (bearing in mind that compilation is often a lossy transformation). A huge advantage of high level l...

I didn't exactly want to run the mystery binary hacking payload so to test the mitigation I instead ran this to check that the vulnerable module wouldn't load: import socket as s a=s.socket(38,5,0);a.bind(("aead","authencesn(hmac(sha256),cbc(aes))")) If the module is successfully blocked you should see a FileNotFoundError here. Tested on Debian Trixie. FYI the current long-term Debian versions are still unpatched so I recommend using the mitigation of di...
