  Starting to think I should look into switching over to FinTech rather than continuing with games for my future. With everyone seemingly hell bent on removing the actual bit of this job I enjoy in favour of being a "manger for AI agents" I figure if I'm going to work a job that sucks the life from me then I might as well get Paid for it....

  Having solved a problem at work, I decided to Know Thine Enemy and see what Cl*ude would make of it. I described the core of the problem, what I knew when I started, and let it go. While very anti-AI I was willing to look over what it produced and, like any good scientist, if it was good I would change my position. Dear Read, the code was absolute pish. cont.

  I wonder if part of the fundamental difference between pro-LLM AI dev vs anti-LLM AI dev (to reduce it down to those polarise positions) is that of product vs problem. I'm very much in the latter, I know my Happy Chemicals come from solving a specific problems but the over all product I'm not that bothered about - something I've never made a secret of, I don't care what I work on as long as the problems are interesting.   Some years ago, while talking about UE's new stuff and general industry uptake I do recall voicing some "concern" about an engine monoculture appearing, where its all UE everywhere. While I might not have called the "how", the setting fire to vast amounts of UE by Epic does kinda back that concern up some what...

  Someone linked a Thing which takes LLM-AI generated text and makes it more 'human like'. So, burn a bunch of energy because you didn't want to write something, burn some more to make it more human like, and then expect others to put time and effort into reading it... Feels like trying to trick people into reading the slop... and, frankly, if you couldn't be bothered to write it, why should I be bothered to read it? Clearly can't be that important......

  Some people recently learnt about a server company, hosting game servers, being brought out by an AI service company, who promptly cancelled all the game hosting. One person, who uses AI in coding, raised the fear that Amazon might shutdown Steam for much the same reason. Highly unlikely, but still when it impacts them suddenly its a concern eh? Still, its good to see the Leopard Eating Faces Party has made inroad into tech 👍

  *gets two BSOD in two days, both memory related* *runs memtest and sees a bunch of errors* cool, cool, cool.... Interestingly the failures are always the top 2 bytes (xx000000) of the data - so, kinda hoping something has just worked itself loose over the last few years and a reseat will fix it... but that's Tomorrow Me's problem. The RAM is only 4 years old however I doubt even Corsair will RMA if they even have any to replace it with.

  Funny thing about LLM-"AI" - those who use it bang on about "productivity" and "getting more done" and yet does that translate into an actual benefit for the employee? If all this "productivity" increase meant the work hours, or days of week, decreased and thus gave you a better quality of life I could get more onboard with it. But no. Same 8 hours.   One thing I rarely see when it comes to the discussion around "LLM AI" is that all people are doing is giving yet more money and power to a small group of already rich people. I'd go so far as to argue that by using their tools you are indirectly working for them (and paying for the privilege) as every user makes their product look better and thus worth more. Maybe it all crashes; they'll get out rich still. Or maybe it doesn't, the price goes up, and...

  TIL that VCV Rack can host VST plugins! You have to have the paid version (already did, wanted to try a clone of a real Befaco module) and it costs an extra $30 on top for the modules but once again I can drown my signal in Blackhole based reverb so it was 100% worth it 🥳 (Side note : I have too many VST installed 😭)

  On some level I'm darkly impressed by the AI Bros and companies. They've managed to convince people that their taking of all the content, regardless of laws that the rest of us should follow, and then selling it back to us is not only a good thing, but an inevitable thing that must happen, and if you aren't onboard with giving Rich People more money then you are wrong.
