Finally got round to seeing Project Hail Mary; thoroughly enjoyed it. Still have difficulty telling Ryans Gosling and Reynolds apart though.

@cunobaros I see you're a Hugo finalist again - many congratulations, and good luck!

Off to Stowe for a National Trust event. 1st time we've been back since we got married there 30 years ago -)

The room we got married in is in the central section of the house, immediately to the right of the 5 columns.

@cunobaros Just squeezing in under the wire - Happy Birthday!

Now on the train from Paris to Munich. Our friends are somewhat closer this time, in the next carriage along.

Now on a train from Munich to Zagreb. This time our friends are in the same carriage as us.

And now into our 3rd country of the day (Slovenia)

Settlling in to our large, modern apartment in Zagreb. After over 9 hours on the train, don't think we'll be going out again this evening:-)

This apartment is perfect except for one small thing - the cups provided are fine for small coffees but no good for a proper cuppa, so had to go out & buy a mug :-)

@jackwilliambell @bellinghman They are sensible enough to provide an electric kettle, but if they hadn't, I would have boiled water in a pan before resorting to the microwave - some things are Just Not Done:-)

On the sleeper train to Stuttgart. Getting into the upper bunk required a level of contortion that makes me glad I do yoga and pilates. Not looking forward to getting down again!

    @jackwilliambell @bellinghman Thank you

Yesterday I had an email from the National Trust telling me that tickets for 'Christmas at Wimpole' were now available. Slightly boggled.

    Oops

Let's see if the slinky trick works for me :-)

I suppose in Switzerland, Shetland and Welsh ponies would be exotic

That's one way of recycling old Christmas trees :-)

Flicking through TV channels in the hotel, came across the German version of 'Ghosts'. The character casting is the same, except the arrow through the neck person is female & the dead soldier is a Roman centurion.

The Plague, painted by Böcklin in 1898. Looks like it should be an SFF cover.

I'd forgotten how weird some German places can be about debit & credit cards - the restaurant we have just been to would only take Visa or Mastercard if they had been issued by a German bank. Good job it was not an expensive meal so we had enough cash.

Alarm set for 02:30, will leave the hotel at just gone 03:00 to see the official start of Fasnacht at 04:00. The back to the hotel for a snooze, I think :-)

Just before the lights went out for Morgenstraich at 04:00. Glad to see we're not on our own :-)

    Wut?

I have discovered, to my cost, that it is actually possible to eat too much leckerli (small soft biscuits from Basel). They are dangerously more-ish, but I have learnt my lesson.
