Yikes. This is the Vantage #AI data centre in Sterling, Virginia. Took this video from Reddit, but you can also look it up on YT (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CV4hhj574v0). It has a "backup" natural gas powered generator that must run all the time to keep up with demand which makes that noise.

One of my tasks as a professor is checking in on interns. This means sending an email to their manager. Previously, I'd receive a message like: "Everything is good!" and that would be it. Perfect. No need to follow up. Now? 1200-word bullet-point, emoji-filled slop.

Watched "The Dinosaurs" (2026) docuseries with my son. He is 9 and it cracked him up because poor Morgan Freeman said "BUT" so many times. The entire script is: "(A) is dangerous <pause> but not as dangerous as (B)" or clichés like "but megachompasaurus is not alone" or "but their reign will soon come to an end" every time there was a pause my son would yell out "BUUUUUT!&quot...

I get emails with news from where I grew up. I have some filters so stories that don't mention my hometown to go the bin. Every Sunday, I might get one or two stories and some are false positives. Today I had about 10 emails and I recognized the name of someone I went to school with in the title. She was arrested for financial crimes and human trafficking (wtf!). That was a twist I wasn't expecting, the last person I knew that got arrested was for siphoning gas!

This sounds familiar: "Predictably, the response from higher education administrators―who are busy signing contracts for institutional LLM subscriptions to show how future-first their thought leadership is―has been to tell instructors that their job is to teach students “how to use AI effectively.” Most examples of this “effective use” involve students generating an essay with AI and then critiquing it." https://arstechnica.com/science/2026/04/to-teach-in-the-time-of-chatgpt...

https://www.reuters.com/business/finance/frances-mistral-raises-830-million-debt-ai-data-centre-build-up-2026-03-30/ Mistral has raised $830 million in new debt (from 7 banks) to buy 13,800 Nvidia Grace Blackwell GPUs for its AI data centre that is expected to be ready by the end of 2026.
