Your yearly reminder that the little CMS, Textpattern, exists, and it's quite ace without the cruft of visual builders or AI: https://textpattern.com

New post in my IA series: Information scent makes both broad and deep information hierarchies work: https://www.agux.co/information-architecture/information-scent-makes-and-broad-and-deep-information-hierarchies Both breadth and depth impact how well users can navigate, however information scent, berrypicking, and visual hierarchy—how people interact with your hierarchy—impact the usability of your hierarchies just as much, if not more.

I wrote a thing. On LinkedIn. I'm trying to make it more the place I'd like it to be. Customer Journey Management: The Missing Link in Conversion Rate Optimization: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/customer-journey-management-missing-link-conversion-rate-govella-zzcqc/

I posted a new mix on Mixcloud for @aaronesilvers but you might like it to. It crosses genres and spends a lot of time in 80s alternative: https://www.mixcloud.com/austingovella/vibe-raider-mix-002-revenant-valentine/

The first post from the IA stuff I was working on. The book's central hypothesis was that we have a missing generation of information architecture practitioners, so we start with what IA is and how it connects to everyday design work. https://www.agux.co/information-architecture/information-architecture-day-to-day-the-methods-and-tools-that-make-design-work #informationarchitecture

Information architecture tools help make things make sense whether you're designing an interface, a website or application, or even an entire platform. But I.A. tools look different when applied to an interface than when they’re applied to an entire website: https://www.agux.co/information-architecture/information-architecture-toolbox-for-better-product-and-service-design #informationArchitecture

Not sure why I posted this on LinkedIn instead of my own blog, but who knows why one does anything? A client asked how many personas they needed, so I thought I'd write up my answer. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/how-many-personas-do-you-need-austin-govella-hfgpc/ #UX #personas

How you think about the stuff in your site isn’t how your users think about the stuff. If you want your site to work for your users, you have to design a site that reflects how they think: https://www.agux.co/information-architecture/website-organizaiton-makes-sense-to-you-but-confuses-others Part 3 in my series on information architecture.

What User Mental Models Are and Why They Should Drive Your IA — Mental models represent how users think about something. Information architecture crafts mental models that help teams design products and services that work the way your users expect. https://www.agux.co/information-architecture/what-user-mental-models-are-and-why-they-should-drive-your-ia #informationarchitecture

Post 5/n in my information architecture series: How information architecture and content strategy must work together Fail to collaborate on content inventories, content models, or block diagrams, and you will deliver disjointed experiences for users, and difficult to manage sites for content authors. https://www.agux.co/information-architecture/information-architecture-and-content-strategy-must-work-together #informationarchitecture

I've been doing a lot of personalization work lately, and I've collected five, data-readiness questions you can work through to assess your readiness for a personalization program. And what to do if you're not ready in an area: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/before-you-buy-personalization-platform-run-data-audit-austin-govella-othmc

Mastodon friends... need your critical eyes. I'm looking at expanding my facilitation guides, so they're totally complete... *everything* you need to facilitate the activity. Question for you: is it too long? Is it hard to read? Does the TOC help? Is it worth the effort? https://pxd.gd/test/garden-method-2.html #UX #workshops
