I really need to get to a PyCon. 20 years as a Python dev and never once been to PyCon. I have friends in the Python community who think I’ve been. It’s crazy. I realllllyyyyy need to fix that.

I was in a reflective mood last night and this morning. I journaled it all out of my head and thought, why not just post this for the world to see? https://anderycks.net/what-am-i-working-for/

I just had a moment where I needed to page through a dozen or so Google results to find something. I had this weird deja vu about that. I never do this anymore, but I remember paging through Google results for hours back when Google was new. Yes, that dates me, but also, remember when that was fun?!

Here’s your friendly reminder — we tech people are wrong way more than we’re right. https://anderycks.net/seduced-by-the-idea-of-the-future/

I wrote a blog post on Jim Prosser’s AI and Dr. Manhattan piece, which is genuinely so good. I’m a little tougher on AI/tech leaders than he is. Clearly, I’m not trying to win friends and influence people in quite the same way. https://anderycks.net/wanting-to-change-the-world-is-arrogance/

Sometimes you have one of those perfect mornings. Good coffee, progress on a great book, a little writing. I’m good with whatever the rest of the day brings now.

No one has invited me to do a commencement speech this year, so here’s the advice you didn’t ask for. https://anderycks.net/everyone-has-advice-no-one-knows/

I was in a reflective mood the last couple of days and wrote a post about the last 20 years in news, media, and tech. https://anderycks.net/thinking-about-news-social-media-and-ai/

I’m at work and this popped up on the screen. I had to text my family. https://anderycks.net/the-current-moment-really-is-stranger-than-fiction/

@multiverseofbadness Right?! It's clearly all fright hype.

I’ve been doing a lot more writing lately, both on my blog and in fiction. I’m writing about technology and the stories we tell ourselves about tech. I like the way this post turned out, to give you a sense of what I’m going for. https://anderycks.net/that-twinkle-in-their-eye/

I’m irrationally excited for the season finale of THE PITT tonight.

I love Colson Whitehead so freaking much. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/04/15/opinion/art-artificial-intelligence.html?unlocked_article_code=1.c1A.IP7j.Xhuh2qm3ABBe&smid=url-share

It's hard to write about AI without wading into a religious war, but I tried. https://anderycks.net/critical-about-the-stories-we-tell-generative-ai/

Man, @gruber is just killing it as a writer lately. Like, the actual writing. That piece on Cook with that product guy ending was a banger. And now this one. https://daringfireball.net/2026/04/we_dont_serve_their_kind_here The theme is near and dear to me, too. Bravo! 👏👏

@multiverseofbadness I find myself mostly in this camp. My open source friends are AI will destroy us doomers; my work friends are Dr. Galaxybrain boosters. I find it more exhausting not being able to find reasonable conversation than anything else. So just waving from across the room, being glad to hear there’s more of us. 👋

I got a new keyboard for office work. Had to trade in a classic WASD board that had loud cherry blue switches for one with some tactile browns for a softer click. I do also find the CNN red escape key appropriate.
