Nolan is dead to me after shooting in Western Sahara. Western Sahara is the Palestine no one knows about. Occupied first by Spain (1884) and then Morocco. FTG.

Random work slack question: what would you put in a 1000-year time capsule? People think that’s just a normal question? Like we’re gonna be around in 1000 years? Like no one would ask that unless it never occurred to them we likely won’t. Do most people go around like this?

TIL that “Cirencester”, the English town, is not contracted in speech like all the other -cesters. Nope they pronounce every syllable. Siren. Ces. Ter. Not today and probably not tomorrow but one day England will pay for its myriad crimes. Good morning partypeople

Hey I have a linguistics question. What do you call the strip of greenery between the sidewalk and the street? TIL there are many English words for this, maybe none of them has primacy in USA, & I don't think I have a word for it from childhood. (ETA: I'm really struggling to understand why there are so many words for this in USA). Please respond with your country/region. Non-English responses welcome. Boosts—and I can't stress this enough—encouraged :boost_ok: #linguistics

For the most part my since-college insomnia has been under control in recent years but every now and then… Last night the bedroom breaker tripped. Weird because we usually run the a/c and the fan and the air filter without issue, but last night just the a/c. Eventually at 2:15 I woke up as a consequence—no way to know when it tripped because there’s no power-connected clock in that room. Went down to the basement and flipped the breaker. But couldn’t get back to sleep for at least an hour. So...

Ok I'm gonna biggup Paraguay, one of my favorite teams just because in Paraguay almost everyone can understand the big native language, Guaraní, as well as Spanish, and the players speak it on the field to confound their Spanish-speaking opponents. So congratulations to Paraguay! ¡Enhorabuena!

A young Black woman named Tonea Nicole Miller was found hanging from a tree in Miami last week, having traveled down there from Michigan. The um local constabulary are trying to call it a suicide. I mean, no. There is no reporting on this except for the Black paper in Miami. https://www.miamitimesonline.com/news/local/tonea-nicole-miller-death-sparks-justicefortonea-movement-after-woman-found-hanging-in-miami-park/article_c6f42bc5-ad82-4a6b-84f7-44197c0b4e94.html Let's keep this story al...

Ran down to the rental house to do a walkthrough. There’s a 12” high statue of Saint Francis on the right side of the house. One thing I don’t miss about NYC is the paucity of trees. Partypeople I was raised in the Wissahickon Valley and I love a goddamned tree!
