Canada's team was scored on fewer times in the round of 16 than the USA's! Take that! (Pointing out how we're slightly better than the USA is an essential part of the Canadian identity). #Canada #USA #FIFA #WorldCup

Structural engineers' biggest nightmare is when things are moving in ways they shouldn't. https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/new-york-city-high-rise-danger-9.7261602 I'm glad evacuation occurred before a Florida Champlain Towers situation could happen. #NYC #engineering

I would like Carney to stop reflexively praising US strikes as if someone tapped his knee with a rubber mallet. #cdnpoli #IranWar #MarkCarney

Photos of the Vancouver Skytrain's Alstom Innovia Metro "Mark V", the latest automated light metro model, which began service around a year ago. I like its very sleek design. It is longer than previous models and even higher capacity due to having fewer seats per car than previous. #Vancouver #transit #trains #BritishColumbia

I find myself in Montréal today so I am riding the REM. It is a lot of fun because you can look out of the front or back of these automated trains. My one constructive criticism is the doors need to be open longer at McGill, people have trouble embarking and disembarking at this stop before the doors start closing. #Montreal #REM #transit #trains

Loops vs. PeerTube for video host Hey friends, I'm thinking of starting up an ActivityPub compatible server to host and share my own train videos with the Fediverse, and wondering: Of the two video-oriented softwares, which would be a better fit for my use case and easier to work with? The videos would be between 15 seconds and 10 minutes long. Comparisons, pros and cons, and your experiences working with either would be appreciated. Thanks. @fediverse

Seeing more bike commuters with me on the road today in Vancouver, roughly an amount I'd see usually in June! The weather's good, and gas being what it is, I genuinely think more people are trying out the bike commute to work. Tell me if you have. #biketooter #Vancouver #fuckcars

A Canadian Sovereign Wealth Fund? Sounds like it would be a great way to fund a high-speed rail buildout. Sign me up! #Canada #HighSpeedRail #Trains #Finance #CDNPoli

@TechConnectify If you love subtle audio cues, Japanese train stations are going to blow your mind. Someone made a 20-minute audio compilation of assistive cue recordings, and 3/4 of them are various bird sounds to signal the way out from a train platform. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGDLy29quy0 Another one I know of is in the JR East area: the (perceived) gender of the speaker denotes whether a recorded announcement is for the even number platform or odd. #trains #accessibility #blind #...

Here's why I think Parliament chose to fund the NDP despite no official status... I think it's because the Conservatives and BQ know that a two party-system would become a 1.75-party one in reality, giving the Liberals lasting power at their own expense. The Terrebonne and other byelections make that quite clear. We need a space for Canada's left flank. And an end to FPTP. #cdnpoli #NDP #BlocQuebecois #Canada #Liberal @canadapolitics

Here are my photos of one of TransLink's current fleet of Hi-rail maintenance crew cars, which I spotted when it just happened to be parallel parked at the maintenance facility in Burnaby. Its appearance is like a lifted kei-truck because the center has to stay above the Skytrain's unique LIM (linear induction motor) rail. #trains #transit #Vancouver

The maintenance-of-way equipment of the Canada Line was parked at Waterfront station last month. Here are some of my pictures of it. I have no clue what the model of shunting engine this could be. #trains #Vancouver #Canada #transit #Maintenance
