  I have this vivid memory of a month spent learning BASIC in 6th grade, and the instructor would repeatedly say "the syntax of ... is ..." And I had no idea what this word "syntax" was. I never got it, until when I went back to programming 7 years later. With my kids I'm trying to use the word "skeleton" instead of syntax. Though calling the blanks "bones" seems like a wrong turn with hindsight.

  I idly thought up this visualization of the Sieve of Eratosthenes. The usual 2D grid makes sense when you have limited space on paper. But if you have a touchscreen with pan and pinch zoom it seems better to spread out the numbers in a single line. @dpiponi @mjd @ColinTheMathmo or others, do you happen to know a citation for something like this?
