Via a different parody I was directed at this lovely bit of musical IT nostalgia and our recurring need to just rewrite our over complex systems. https://youtu.be/xCGu5Z_vaps Loved all the references, and having been at ground zero for the infamous Samba4 rewrite, it got me in the feels.

@darkuncle I like unrolling my own cryptography instead! Samba has uses for single DES. Slowly being eradicated, but likely with us but off by default for a long time thanks to NTLMv1. The cryptographic library we chose, GnuTLS, did not expose DES, only DES-CBC. CBC chaining requires an Initialization Vector (IV) and we must choose the IV, ideally at random. But if set to all zeros and only one round of DES is performed, out we get is raw DES, but we can swear we don&#39;t do our own cry...
