  @vees@epistolary.org High-frequency eating. I wait for the cheapest 10 moments in a day to buy a small French fry order. Or repeatedly buy a giant combo meal whenever I think prices will rise, divide it into pieces, and sell to the next 3 people who walks in. “Flipping” burgers, gettit? Gettit?

  @UweHalfHand @douglasvb I read it as Douglas VB knew it went in but students flaked for 6 mo. But yeah if it’s 1st you ever heard of it, tell editor. Situation sucks & I’m sorry. I squirm just reading. I had student say a poster was accepted w/ my name and my boss once, on multi person call, and I had to hold myself back from laying into him. It was a tiny local conference but you do NOT do that. He didn’t know, but like do we have to brief every student on this?

  People who think plain decision trees or logistic regression are more “explainable” have obviously never seen a ridiculously overfit decision tree or a logistic regression model using all 2^n interactions plus polynomial terms.   @N3VEM It kills me how the “Election Night Special” sketch feels like it’s about Headline News or HLN in the 2004–2008 era. All the over-serious tone, and the babbling so fast about nothing of substance. What the hell was going on in 1970s politics and media that I didn’t recognize?

  @mcc It’s unspeakable how many cryptic little icons have invaded new apps. - little downward caret - ellipsis - VERTICAL ellipsis - plus sign - click your own profile pic to access everything important - gear - gear, but it does only 1 thing, which is never useful - hamburger - hamburger but only 5 items inside, & only 1 is useful - ℹ️ The future is me with a big text file, 1 heading per app, saying what sequences to click for each workflow. It becomes outdated every 36 hours.

  @muvlon @mcc Ooh, I especially dig the recognition of the ambiguous ones. Little envelope means “generate a new message about this thingy” Little envelope means “this thingy itself is already a message, so set its status to unread.”

  #ToyStory , but suffused with Sci-fi horror. Like Alien or Aliens or Pitch Black, but instead of hiding from the xenomorph, they’re trying to avoid getting thrown in the trash. In one scene, there’s one panicky dumb guy who’s about to crack, and they have to convince him to stay in hiding. #humansAreCthulhu
