A 700-tonne crane, a huge vacuum chamber (100 tons) sliced into three sections. A few centimeters of clearance through the roof. On 25 August, the CSL (Centre Spatial de Liège) pulled off one of its most delicate lifts ever: installing FOCAL7, soon one of Europe's largest vacuum chambers. 🛰 FOCAL 7 will serve both Earth-observation missions and purely scientific missions, across a wide range of wavelengths. 🎥 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfL3FRinEZ8 👉️ https://www.news.uliege.be/c...

RESEARCH 🌳 | Climate subtly shapes carbon stocks in mature tropical forests An international study shows that, in mature tropical forests, climate influences carbon stocks primarily through stand structure. As its effects on the various components of this structure tend to cancel each other out, the relationship between climate and carbon remains difficult to detect and varies significantly from one region to another. https://www.gembloux.uliege.be/cms/c_13732742/en/climate-subtly-shapes-carbo...

2021 floods Five years ago, the July 2021 floods devastated the Vesdre valley and western Europe: 200+ deaths, tens of billions in damage. Since then, engineers at ULiege's HECE lab have run four studies to understand what happened, and to respond better next time: reconstructing the flood, validating models, mapping debris under bridges, and pinpointing what really damages homes. 👉 https://www.news.uliege.be/cms/c_20690914/en/the-2021-floods-five-years-of-research-by-the-hece-laboratory-...
