What do you think? Will being able to identify people by their microbiomes ever have forensic applications? #Technology #Science #Forensics

Random thought: Aliens choose a housecat named Rusty and a border collie named Oscar as character witnesses for humanity when putting that species on trial. How well or badly is this going to turn out for the humans? #WritingPrompt #WritingCommunity

The bride insists the guest list with its twenty-four million entries must be pared down to a thousand, or she's going to disappear into a pocket dimension and hide out there until the fall of civilization. The groom's family feels she's being completely unreasonable.

Them: "That was iconic." Me: "Okay, but did you enjoy it?" Them: "I said it was iconic." Me: ... He keeps using that word, but I do not think it means what he thinks it means.

#WritersCoffeeClub Apr 25: Share your current biggest creative frustration. As a writer, I suck without a critique circle and a good editor.

Can somebody give me a compelling reason to keep using GoodReads?

How many times can you write and rewrite the same scene before you're satisfied with it? I'm currently on the thirteenth run-through for my current toil and trial. #AmWriting

Would you be upset if a story that at first seems straight-up generic medievalist fantasy turned out to be weird space opera with a healthy dollop of cosmic horror?

So, do you think the English of the 2160s will be at all comprehensible to anyone in 2023 if they heard it spoken?

For the record, when I said her eyes were the color of gunmetal, I meant red-brass, not blue-steel.

For some reason, I've been thinking about Dread Pirate Ginny and how to revisit and finish the story. To that end, I wrote two scenes during today's writing time. #AmWriting

Random Thought: Historians of the 29th-century look back on the 21st century with fascinated horror while getting every single detail wrong. This is largely because the only surviving documents from the period are conspiracy websites and political extremist commentary. What kind of history do you write when these are your only sources?

This month, I'm trying to better understand horror as a genre. I really need a source breaking down all the popular subgenres, but it's early in my research and I have no idea where to look. There's more to horror cinema than slasher movies, right? #WritingCommunity #Horror

I have to say, there's an overwhelming body of scholarly work about the horror genre.

Is it weird that Happy Death Day is the only slasher movie that I actually enjoyed and didn't leave halfway through in disgust?

I recall the camera I used as my general-take-along camera in the 90s having a red-eye reduction flash mode. People did not appreciate it when I used it. If I recall correctly, it was a long strobing thing ending with a high-intensity final flash. I don't think it worked all that well.

#WritersCoffeeClub 2026 May 19: How would changing genre change your current WIP's plot? It depends on the target genre, but there are a few genres it could be retrofitted into with a few small changes here and there.

Is Ginger Snaps (2000) really a must-watch? I'll probably watch it this weekend. #Horror #Movies
