  Godmorgen fredagsdanskere. I dag en lille sproglig øvelse for "Danmark Skifter". Når folk – også søde og fornuftige folk – taler om at søge på internettet, taler de ofte om det som at "google". Dagens øvelse kræver ikke, at man ændrer nogen programmer eller lærer ny tech. Den kræver, at man lærer et nyt sprogligt mønster. Hver gang din mund er ved at sige "google" erstat det med "søge". En "googling" kan...

If you interact with Danes on Mastodon you'll see a lot of posts with the hashtag #DanmarkSkifter It means "Denmark Switches". It's people encouraging each others to switch away from US-tech. So, I don't know about your local initiatives in this regard, but know that you are not alone. Danes are trying to switch, too.

  Ok, so Thursday I'll be teaching Terry Pratchett's "Guards Guards" to my fairly high-brow literary students. My task will be to show them that it is a wonderful piece of literature. Personally, I adore it, but it may take a bit of work to get my students around. Didactic suggestions?

The "entry cost" at Mastodon is a bit higher than on most centralized social media platforms, and it does hamper uptake. I think the rising "cost" of being on other social media changes the comparison slightly, so I remain hopeful that Mastodon might rise to greater importance.

Many find that Mastodon requires a steep learning curve and coming over from the Dead Bird Site some years ago it took me a long time to find my way on Mastodon - not because of the tech involved but because tech and discursive practices go hand in hand. And discursive practices are hard hard hard to change. So if you've moved here, and made a digtial home here: Welcome. Your efforts are hugely appreciated.

  Note til mit forsøg med "I Kveld" ovenfor. Sædvanligvis lødig kilde informerer mig om, at det slet ikke er 3/4, men 6/4, så nu skal jeg have stemt øret lidt om for at få den rigtig. Man laver, og man lærer, eller hvad det nu hedder på dansk.* * Det hedder "man skal lære, så længe man lever". Det andet er en anglicisme.
