  Why are the streets so empty on the top image. Its obvious why on the bottom. Is it a render image from mapping software or something?

  Nebula does not bring an audience like YouTube can, so its not a solution yet. I think YouTube should have a free tier with limited watch minutes of low quality, not an advertising tier.

  I know many grandparents that made the effort to stay in touch with Children and Grandchildren. They are not incapable of learning, they just need sufficient motivation and support. Something like signal is simpler and less likely to push slop their way. Also look at some of the simplified launchers available for android. It allows you to setup a locked down UI for them that hides everything they don’t need.

  Its that way with many technologies. The lead time on such research is long enough that market factors alter the viability by the time it is ready to get commercialized. Quite often innovations from prototype technology can be transplanted into existing tech for part of the benefit, without having to build new production capacity. So the new technology does not commercialised, but the learnings from it does.
