@integerpoet @bbcworld just one of many, though, no? Cursory look says Google’s aren’t even there, at least not their major ones.

Very poignant. Turned on the faucets. A vintage rotary phone in a forest, four miles from Washington state's capital Olympia, isn't connected to a telephone line but it's become a literal lifeline for people to speak words out loud to lost loved ones https://www.reuters.com/world/us/i-need-an-outlet-grieving-relatives-talk-lost-loved-ones-phone-forest-2023-06-12/

@dcjohnson I think it's worse than that. It's necropolitics. They don't just want people to get angry at the NHS. They want people to pay or die so the entire social safety net is drastically reduced. I don't think it's a conspiracy, but I do think that's how little they care about others not like them.

@dcjohnson To be clear, I wasn't talking about your strategy point in that regard. I was talking about my (and others') theory that it's necropolitics. I'm not sure *that* is a conspiracy. Regarding your observation that hating the NHS is a strategy, I think that it's at least that.

IG has a ton Husky accounts. Some with the usual annoying music, some are boring, some are pretty cute and/or funny. This one keeps me laughing. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cr0UCTFqFcN/

Good thread. I'm linking Soledad O'Brien's copy since it's easy to read and not everyone likes going to the bird site. Assigned Media (Evan Urquhart) @assignedmedia I want to slow this discourse down for a moment and be very clear and deliberate about why Armstromg's history of cheating in cycling is important and relevant here, beyond a cheap gotcha. @KimberWitch I'm aware of the whinge-about-twitter thing, and I should know better: But I'm still shocked at how it continues to get worse and worse. Maybe I stay for the trainwreck.

@LadyDragonfly I think his demographic lives longer, though. But probably nix that because I don't think his egomania will do well in prison. Harsh penalties often mean more difficult convictions. I hope that's not the case here. I hope it's as slam dunk as it looks from here.

@jamesthomson Got the high pitch version -- imagine a radiator hissing. Not the worst, but damn if it doesn't wear me down when I'm already tired. Audiologist tested me a couple of years ago and swears it doesn't get in the way of hearing things (that's a different damage in R ear), but that's hard to believe. Thanks for posting, James. I may give this a try and see if there's one that works for me.

@jamesthomson I'm used to it now, but every once in a while I think about what a relief it would be to have this noise in my head. I'll have to subscribe to the app and try out all the different frequencies.

If anyone knows of a good tenancy lawyer in SF, please let me know. My colleague is a Stanford researcher and disabled. He want to bypass the Rent Board and is ready to take legal action. (And he's a great guy who does not need this grief, esp given the expense of this apartment in Mission Rock.)
