Damn. DAMN. I was researching FSMs, as one does. The cursed AI overview offered an example. Very trivial, nothing like what I need. It has that question area. I told it to make a change in the direction I wanted. It provided a better example. Two steps later, it offered a style of solution that I would not have thought of, that is better than what I would do in that situation. It's not what I need, but as a step toward what I need but it's useful. I am fascinated, and I do not like...

I would like it to become a thing for interviewers to say: "Just one more question: what the fuck is wrong with you?"

Hello, loves! Got a bit carried away with refactoring this morning. Is it worth it? One More Thing ... I see one more thing that needs doing. And then I propose that we have a little fun. What am I saying, programming IS fun for me. CW: Brief LLM excursion. https://ronjeffries.com/articles/-v026/s/s/

I have a simple idea that I think may be quite nifty. Maybe I'll nap first, or finish this Carl book. Or both.

I do the work because I enjoy doing it. I don't let the demon do the work, because I enjoy doing the work. And because the demon is a demon, not a benign genie. And because the demon steals human's work. And because the demon enriches the ultra-rich. And because the demon costs humans their jobs. And because the demon destroys the environment. And because the demon is the tool of the oppressor. I do the work because it is my work, and I enjoy doing it.

Dammit. I completed today's article and was wondering how many lines it was on the screen. I didn't find that out, but Safari included a menu item "Summarize", clearly an "AI" summary of some kind, so I clicked it. It provided two very coherent paragraphs that sounded quite certain about it all. Each paragraph was substantially correct, and each included an important error that resulted in a misstatement of what was really in there. Damn "AI" and the horse...

If you are using or touting LLMs, you are supporting the destruction of the environment, the loss of jobs, transfer of money from regular folx to the rich. You are betraying humanity. There is, however money to be made, so that's probably just fine.

I am, of course, concerned for us all, victims of this evil rich idiocracy, but ever so much more concerned for my brothers, sisters, siblings of color, or who are subject to gender- or orientation-based discrimination, or who are being bombed out of their homes, their countries by aggressors, or subject to being oppressed in any form. I do not know what to do. I do not know what anyone can do. I guess we all just do what little things we can, and hope for the butterfly effect.

Fossil fuels are bad. Cars are bad. Ideally, I should use no fossil fuel, not drive a car. Is it better to use less fuel, better to drive less, rather than make no change in what I do? Seems it must be. This is a question about "AI". Happens that I don't use any of the programming "AI" things. I know folx who do. I'm wondering what I should think about that.

RE: https://mastodon.online/@jchyip/116426284818812798 Interesting. Identifies a key issue. I'm not convinced about the proposed solutions, but I could be quite wrong. My core objections to LLM-AI remain untouched: not good for humans, not good for the world, but good for the oligarchy, who are already an immense threat to humanity at large.

If you are a developer working with "AI", you are digging your own grave or the grave of your coworker. If you are <profession> working with "AI', ... If the other massive evils don't stop you ... I guess that one won't either. Never mind.

I do understand why folx, including many whom I respect and care for, collaborate with the "AI" enemy. I get it, I really do. Collaborators live longer and better than the resistance. If I weren't retired, I might well be collaborating: I am not a brave man, and I love my well-off life. But damn. "AI" feeds the system, enriches the oligarchy, and if it's not stopped, it will come for you. Maybe one should live the best life one can until th...
