  Yes, I think that is a major part of it. Your religion telling you you are a bad person causes some deep turmoil. And keeping the feelings away likely offers him some temporary reprieve.

  I always have at least three laptops, one that I’m using, one I’m working on setting up, and the old one I can’t let go of. You sound like you need some VMs. Particularly for whatever is on that old laptop.

  They deemed them a supply chain vulnerability. This is the justification for phasing them out and not renewing the contract. Happens all the time, usually with less Tweets and more quiet paper pushing.
