@HeavenlyPossum@kolektiva.social Regime change is basically impossible without a ground invasion, and even Duh Fuhrer isn't stupid enough to get into that fight. At best he might be able to incapacitate Iran's military capability for a few years, and so postpone the problem for someone else. Look on the upside though: He finally found a way to reduce the world's oil consumption.

Oh, chromebook serial ending in SH1T3. Yes, yes it is.

Bad day at work: Borrowed the £100 fancy camera from the media department, then bent the USB-C connector on the non-replaceable cable. I can probably fix it, but it's going to be a nightmare of a soldering job to cut and splice some cables carrying 2.5GHz serial in a way that will perfectly preserve the line impedance

Work-school had a TV in one of the atriums that shows BBC News 24, with sound off and subtitles on. The intent of this TV is to keep students engaged with and informed on current events, so that they will watch and discuss together during their break and lunch periods. This week, management decided to turn this TV off, as teachers report it is contributing to anxiety among the students. Being constantly informed about ongoing and escalating violence keeps the students from focusing on school.

@HeavenlyPossum@kolektiva.social There are lots of theories as to why, and no firm support of any of them. I am drawn to the most depressing explanation: It's the same reason dance clubs and pubs are struggling, there are reporters warning of a 'loneliness epidemic' and shopping centers are dying. People aren't going out doors for fun any more. If you're not out there meeting your future gang members and getting drunk, you're not going to be out doing crimes either.

@rubixhelix@kolektiva.social @HeavenlyPossum@kolektiva.social Maybe the whole thing is a stunt to distract from the Epstein files? It's working, too.

@arcturax@chitter.xyz There are still pockets of Old Internet around, but without a promotional engine to make people aware of them you really need to search or be invited in.

@katzenberger@tldr.nettime.org I wonder what Microsoft's response will be. Easy enough for them to add an age flag to every Microsoft account, as they make those accounts mandatory already, but business users may be a problem.

@robertcarlson@mastodon.gamedev.place I would actually be surprised if it isn't just named Windows Copilot at this point.

The Demanding Teacher is now going to complain to the principle because I revised his laptop request from 'super expensive portable workstation laptop' to just the regular teacher laptop. DT believes that his needs are greater than all the other teachers because he is a faculty head.

@captpackrat@pawb.fun I do, but it's a fair amount of trouble. I get a lot of spam because I can't be bothered to maintain proper spam filtering, and I never did get around to sorting out DMARC.

@ghouston@mamot.fr @HeavenlyPossum@kolektiva.social I think they get to be white so long as they never speak Spanish and take part in the obligatory displays of patriotism.

@HeavenlyPossum@kolektiva.social Historically racists within the US have been very hostile towards people who were considered the wrong type of white as well.

@HeavenlyPossum@kolektiva.social It's not a war. Only Congress can declare war. This is just a special policing operation. With bombs. Lots of bombs.

@kupac@functional.cafe @IngridHbn@mastodon.online The apparent high production cost of the image makes it appear trustworthy. Good illustrations, professional seeming graphic design. But I see other commenters pointing out it is likely AI generated based on the origin. It's often impossible to tell these days. Even the slop-slingers have access to models good enough pass a close inspection.

@IngridHbn@mastodon.online @synfinatic@infosec.exchange I did once capture a snail and imprison in inside an electric cage. I wanted to know how much voltage is required to make a line they will not cross but won't actually kill them. Its three volts. That's all. Surprisingly low. Once I had that, easy enough to put some strips of copper tape around my lettuce and build the world's tiniest electric fence. (Then the bloody leaf-miners ruined half of it instead.)

@DrCampbell@mastodon.social But viewed from their perspective, their anger is understandable. "I'm the new factory owner, and I just ruined your business. But here, you can work at my factory! With these tools you can make ten times as much. Oh, you won't be paid as much - it's my factory, so all the profits are mine. But you can still earn a living if you just work, oh, fourteen hours a day, six and a half days a week. You can have half a day off on Sunday to go to church. Wor...

I do not care at all about the American Handegg contest, except for one small part. I support the Seahawks in this game. Purely because of the mascotts. The Seahawks have three mascotts, one of which is an actual hawk that does falconry displays. Thats awesome. The Patriot mascott is a half-assed excuse for a mascott. It's an old white man, and the costume looks shoddy and uninspired. Their mascot sucks, and Blitz would absolutely kick Pats ass.

New to my shitlist: The Asus CB1400FKA. Had one with a worn video cable. Common problem. But the cable is routed under the screen, which is held in by adhesive and screws. The screws are then covered up by the glass panel on top, which is held in by more adhesive. The very thin glass. One assembled, the lid is utterly impossible to get apart without destroying it. Worn cable? Microphone or camera not working? Panel damaged? Asus says fuck you, you have to buy a whole new chromebook.

I do not generally post news stories on here, as I have no special insight to add. But satisfaction is just to great, to see one of the mighty tech bros has finally angered a force so powerful that even his trillion-dollar wall of money can offer only partial protection. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ce3ex92557jo
