Today i extended the algorithm via connecting it to my audio analyser tool. Now it creates Bohlen-Pierce harmonics around the fundamental frequency of an incoming audio signal, triggered by onset detection. After a period of no-onsets the synths are stopped. #supercollider #csound

I was thinking about to write a toot on how awful instagram is. but then i noticed i could not grasp every detail of it's shityness, and i also did not want to let this anger grow inside of me, while giving these fascist platform this kind of attention. Now i have to releas my anger in some form

A question: i can get a old trash can #mac pro for free. now i'm thinking about what i should do with it. options are: put #linux on it and figure out if linux is working for me. use it as a #server but i don't have any knowledge in hosting a server. use it as a second mac, which is a bit more performant then my macbook pro with intel processor. what would you do?

I‘m trying out a new way to share sounds I’m currently working on. I call them „Hörnotat“ which means listening-note.

i started moving my repos from github to codeberg. obiously starting with the most important one: my emacs config! :) https://codeberg.org/pvn/emacs-config/

Puuuhhh......My MacBook Pro from 2019 (Intel) is now close to it's performance limits... It is not able to handle my current project anymore and i dont't know what to do... This is an live electronics project for which i need to run reaper and supercollider in parallel. reaper is receiving microphone signals, sending it to a few instances of an audio analyser i developed as vst. The data from the analyser and the mic signals are going into #supercollider.

recently i catched up some critical words on the #matrix protocol and there was no time to ask, what is bad about it. some time ago is used matrix and #element for the organization of an event. is there something i don't know about matrix and element? did there something happen?

do you notice these litte "X:" and "k:"'s ? eglot is really nice for c programming in emacs! #emacs feels almost modern with this kind of support 🫠

Ok - finally i'm back to music. started thinking about rhythm. translated integer numbers to it's bit structures and use these as "sequencer patterns". running multiple voices in parallel and divided these to different meter. also categorized the bit structurse based on their appearence like how many 1's and 0's are next to each other. it's now like a rhythmicon sequencer, that is fed with bit structure sequences. it starts getting intere...

Does someone know some texts on algorithmic music / composition and emotions? i'm currently interested how to guide emotions / associations in computer music / algorithmic composition.

Inspired by @quesebifurcan i reinterpreted his partial stealing algorithm, but instead of creating dense spectra i'm working with chord structures based on the bohlen-pierce scale. #supercollider

#emacs question: how do you manage project switching with multiple frames per project? e.g. i'm working on a project, where i have two frames with two different buffers open and i want to switch to another project, which consists only of one frame and buffer.

I really enjoy the bohlen-pierce scale. There are so many great intervalls that are really emotive for me. I'm still working on the algorithm for this, but i'm really happy with the results and the system by now. #supercollider

This morning i was thinking about, how hard cognitive work feels like the biggest kind of resistance someone can bring up to the current state of capitalism. I connect this idea to the omnipresent, mind numbing, passive media consumption and the tendencie that some people are laying of all hard cognitive work to some kind of ai chat bots. 1/2

i started to learn #html / #css in depth. i was annoyed that i was not able to create proper websites with simpel tools. i was always relying on static site generators. but now i did start with a little linktree website as a start for a new webpresence: https://pvonn.github.io/linktree/

Why are music pieces so short? Couldn't we gather at a space for a whole weekend, listen to one piece of music composed for this duration, just leave the space for eating, toilette, and stuff? Who is in for it?

Oh, no. Éliane Radigue passed away.... This morning i recorded a little radio show that featured her and her piece Kailasha from the Trilogie de la Mort and now we have to read this news... What a sad coincidence... She is a really big inspiration for my work and how i perceive music. She was always so radical and brave in her work. Trilogie de la Mort is such a masterpiece. I guess it was 2023 when i heard two pieces of her Occam River Series live in concert. It was such a great experience..

Next week I’m invited to talk about my current work. Currently I work on a vst plugin for machine listening, searching for ideas expanding my computer music with mechanical instruments, searching for algorithms to interact with and bohlen-pierce scale as source for pitches. But maybe I just want to talk about the importance of details. @ neue Musik Zentrale in essen, germany
