  Been working on curating a collection of old Flash and Shockwave games for my #CGHMN site. I've noticed a trend... Shockwave: mostly made by commercial developers. Pretty much all E-rated. Flash: mostly made by amateurs. Crude content is the norm; hard racism, sexism, general bigotry, toilet humor and bad spelling are omnipresent. #RetroComputing #RetroWeb

  The last few times I've been out, I've started noticing all the Flock cameras. Some of them are way out in rural areas, so it's not just a "city" thing. Makes me feel uneasy...

  #RetroGaming / #RetroComputing frens! I'm trying to track down an old web game. It was a Skee-Ball game (though it wasn't called that), from 1997 or 1998. Used samples from the Windows 3.0 "xylophone" sound clip for audio. I think it was a Shockwave/Director game, but could have been early Flash. Not a lot to go on, but anyone have any ideas?

  Today's #CGHMN project: the Arcturus FTP Search site. A cobbled-together mess of MySQL 3.23, Python 2.1, and PHP 4.2 running on an old Linux box. I'm going to try to implement the old Archie/Prospero protocol, at least enough to get the old clients to work. Did a little feasibility study last night and I think it's doable. #RetroComputing

  I'm considering moving my main #CGHMN server from a QEMU VM to some real vintage hardware. I'm considering two OS options: * OpenBSD 3.0: current VM OS, has some novelty value, and I own a physical copy * Slackware 8.1: more practical benefits, easier to find software and docs for What do you think, #RetroComputing Fedi? :thonk:

  Alright, putting it out for #RetroComputing Fedi: Who all out there has some experience with VIA C3 CPUs? I have a 650 MHz Samuel 2 in a Socket 370 mobo with a VIA 694X chipset and it's running slower than frozen molasses. From contemporary reviews I'm getting the impression that it should be about half as fast as a same-speed Celeron, but what I'm seeing is more like "386 with the turbo switch off" performance. Kinda like what would happen if the on-ch...
