“Every time a man is begotten and born, the clock of human life is wound up anew to repeat once more its same old tune that has already been played innumerable times, movement by movement and measure by measure, with insignificant variations.” ~ Arthur Schopenhauer #quotes #philosophy #nihilism #quotesToLiveBy #philosophicalPessimism

“Our moral virtues benefit mainly other people; intellectual virtues, on the other hand, benefit primarily ourselves; therefore the former make us universally popular, the latter unpopular.” ~ Arthur Schopenhauer #quotes #philosophy #pessimism #quotesToLiveBy

@Axomamma Just because you don't like something does not mean it is evil.

@medley56@frontrange.co I feel the exact opposite. I see nonexistence as the greatest good. Why? Because even "good things" in this world are full of anxiety and suffering. See the philosophy of Julio Cabrera. I agree that morality, or ethics, are less convincing to me than they used to be. Mainly because humans do not have freewill. So how can they choose to refrain from having children? So how can ethics even work?

"Sorrow is better than laughter, for by sadness of countenance the heart is made glad. “The logic of pessimism moves through three refusals: a no-saying to the worst (refusal of the world-for-us, or Schopenhauer’s tears); a yes-saying to the worst (refusal of the world-in-itself, or Nietzsche’s laughter); and a no-saying to the for-us and the in-itself (a double refusal, or Cioran’s sleep).” “Crying, laughing, sleeping—what other responses are adequate to a life that is so indifferent?” ~Eugene Thacker, Cosmic Pessimism #sleep #pessimism #philosophy #quotes #quotesToLiveBy

“From an evolutionary viewpoint, in Zapffe’s observation, consciousness was a blunder that required corrections for its effects. It was an adventitious outgrowth that made us into a race of contradictory beings—uncanny things that have nothing to do with the rest of creation.” ~Thomas Ligotti, The Conspiracy Against The Human Race (TCATHR) 1/2 #consciousness #philosophicalPessimism #pessimism #ThomasLigotti #antinatalism

“In a culture that prizes the can-do, self-starter attitude, to be a pessimist is simply to be a complainer – if you’re not part of the solution, then you’re part of the problem. To live in such a culture is to constantly live in the shadow of an obligatory optimism, a novel type of coercion that is pathologized early on in child education in the assessment: ‘Does not like to play with others.’” ~ Eugene Thacker, Tentacles Longer Than the Night #philosophy #quotes #philosophicalPessimism

“We do not rush toward death, we flee the catastrophe of birth, survivors struggling to forget it. Fear of death is merely the projection into the future of a fear which dates back to our first moment of life... the real evil, is behind, not ahead of us.” ~ Emil Cioran, The Trouble with Being Born #philosophy #philosophicalPessimism #quotesToLiveBy #quotes #EMCioran #AntiNatalism

"There are two things which make it impossible to believe that this world is the successful work of an all-wise, all-good, and, at the same time, all-powerful Being; firstly, the misery which abounds in it everywhere; and secondly, the obvious imperfection of its highest product, man, who is a burlesque of what he should be." ―Arthur Schopenhauer #Quotes #Pessimism #PhilosophicalPessimism #Philosophy #Pessimist #PessimismQuotes #Atheism #Atheist

“There is nothing to be got in the world anywhere; privation and pain pervade it, and boredom lies in wait at every corner for those who have escaped them. Moreover, wickedness usually reigns, and folly does all the talking.
