No wonder these scramblers are a menace, apparently they weigh over 3.5 tonnes! https://www.rte.ie/news/politics/2026/0721/1584485-scramblers-seizure-fee/

https://www.rte.ie/news/ireland/2026/0724/1584928-irish-rail/ I admire the ambition but mother of god that's going to be one hell of a project. Given Irish rail's recent track record you'd have to wonder if a few passing lanes wouldn't be more of a reasonable thing to attempt.

Why do arcane and defunct tax form names persist. Doing a process that talks about a p21, a p45 and a p60, none of which have existed for years to the best of my knowledge. Next they'll be asking for my car's log book.

Two young pigeons are currently hanging out in my garden while they get used to being out of the nest. Makes for some nervy cat garden time.

Bobby Fingers has a new video out today and I think i'm more excited about that than the release of any media in about a decade.

That dicey moment where you go check on the politics of an American metal band you've recently started listening to in the gym. 😅

https://www.rte.ie/news/ireland/2026/0724/1584873-aughinish-alumina-report/ It just boggles the mind. Do they think Russia is taking this alumina and carefully segregating it from their other alumina because they pinky promised not to use it for the military?

Testing out 3D printing a TPU gasket so I can waterproof a camera project. TPU is deformable and water tight so sandwiching it between a layer of acrylic and the rest of the enclosure allows me to have a hole for the camera lens without water getting in. Remains to be seen what impact the acrylic will have on the image, but it holds water so that's promising. First time printing TPU, so far it hasn't given me much trouble.

So all three devolved parliaments of the UK now have nationalist majorities. That feels kinda significant.

They're going to have to drag Starmer out kicking and screaming like Jerry Lundegard at the end of Fargo aren't they.

Bertie Ahearn clip is just a reflection of how loads of people in Ireland actually think. They're racist as fuck but completely unaware that they are. Then they get horribly offended if you point out that singling out a group of people based on their country of origin or religion is actually racism. And yes, this includes Travellers.

https://www.rte.ie/news/2026/0516/1573617-garda-roads-policing/ Not only have the number of roads police dropped by 40%, the number of drivers has also increased by at least 25%, so the ratio of police to drivers is even worse. Spotting a roads policing Garda car is like seeing a unicorn. Of course this being Ireland, the stats for that aren't even current, with the most up to date "Bulletin of Vehicle and Driver Statistics" being for 2022.

Rewatched Dune Part Two last night after having recently read the book for the first time. I remember being vaguely disappointed after I saw it in the cinema and on rewatch I can confirm it's pretty bad. It diverges way too much from the novel, beats you over the head with it's anti religious themes and has a central love story with absolutely no chemistry. The sand worm riding is excellent and the visuals are overall gorgeous but the rewatch left me with zero desire to see part...

Did a bit of catching up on Reform's policy positions. Holy crap how can you just be straight global warming denying in 2026. They're doing the "no evidence of human cause" and "the climate has always changed" lines like it was 2008. I thought we'd at least moved on to impact minimising being the only position you could take without being laughed out of the room.

Watched Dog Day Afternoon today. A 51 year old film that manages to have a more empathetic view of trans people than many people can manage today.

Well done by the UK greens. The response of the reform candidate tells you everything. No humility before the will of the electorate, just more divisive hateful rhetoric.
