Upon review, we reaffirm our ban of "Linux is Best" for bigotry and harassment. Dear admins, mods, and modmins... Alas, the same "open registration" instances are used over and over again to harass and troll the fedi. Yes, we understand the arguments for allowing open registration. But tbh? We find those arguments unconvincing given the abuse we see. FYI, it appears that one of the fedi's most prolific serial spammers (he who we do not deign to name) has taken to cosplaying Muslims so he can harass ppl posting abt the attack in Berlin. For instances struggling with icky people trying to sign up... our extra step during sign-ups is working as intended. As we suspected, filling out the application is enough of a barrier that trolls and spammers are mostly weeded out. Does it reduce possible sign ups? Probs. Does it create more work? A little. But it means that we have a better idea of who ends up on the Speakeasy. We def recommend giving it a try. #FediMod #FediModerators

The Speakeasy has also defederated from subs4social(dot)xyz, a four user instance whose most prolific poster is consistently antisemitic and racist. As the instance lists no admin and federates with some of the worst instances (think universally defedded) we are comfortable recommending a defed. This goddess now needs caffeine. #fediblock

As best we can tell, this is a single user (or effectively single user) instance spewing racism, ableism, and all that stuffs we prefer not to associate with. (Note: One way we find accounts / instances is searches of racist / bigoted terms. This user / instance lit up.) We can't view their timeline, but seadcgdd on multiple instances only show a single active user. Recommendation: Defederation. #fediblock

The Speakeasy uses a two-step process to approve applications, bc "just" turning on approvals doesn"t give us enough info to decide if the person applying is legit. We sort of had a hypo that two step apps would help us catch spam and trolls and so far... it is working!
