🌿Nature is a magical opportunist! When we abandon buildings or discard our machines, vegetation quickly colonises what we have left behind. 🆕🏭🇧🇪 A gigantic abandoned ironworks, once these rusting ruins stood on the south bank of the Meuse River in Liège, Belgium. Enormous steel frames, pipe networks, and industrial conveyors surround a 60m-tall blast furnace. The facility operated as a production hub for liquid pig iron until its closure in 2011. A retro hotel near the shoreline of Lake Balaton in Hungary. The state promoted domestic tourism during the 1960s/1970s, providing subsidised holiday packages to workers. Numerous hotels, such as this one, sprang up all over the scenic Lake Balaton area. The hotel likely operated into the early 1990s, when luxury hotels and resorts were built. 🆕🛠️🇧🇪 New location feature: Hauts-Fourneaux B (HFB Blast Furnace), Belgium Once the heart of the Ougrée Ironworks site in Liège. At 60m-tall it ran 24 hours a day for 70 years, until the ironworks closed in 2011. The rest of the site has been demolished, this will be preserved as a piece of industrial heritage.
