<p>Retired Chem/Physics/Earth Sciences teacher. I'm interested in everything.</p><p>I think society performs at its best when we take care of others, especially the weakest among us. That means a strong social safety net, with "free" healthcare, education, and public transit. It's a dream, I know.</p><p>30+ years of explaining stuff to teenagers has left me with some habits... What space fact blew your mind when you first learned it? Me, as a kid: • The Sun has a limtied lifetime, and in 5 billion years it will swell up and swallow Mercury, Venus, and maybe the Earth 🤯 • Some guy (Eratosthenes) measured the circumference of the Earth in the third century BC, using shadows 🤯 • All the atoms in my body were created in the hearts of stars, or during massive stellar explosions (except hydrogen, which is almost as old as the universe) 🤯 • Black holes, ‘nuff said 🤯 #Astron...
