New tech tip on my website! Readable Email and Web Pages It's 2024. If you're still designing websites or email like you would design an 8.5x11" promotional hand-out on a sheet of paper, you really haven't been paying attention to how people use the internet over the past decade. https://kvibber.com/tech-tips/readable-email/ #webDevelopment #css #usability #accessibility #howTo #techTips

@bhawthorne@infosec.exchange Good point on reader mode! I'll have to add that to the list! As for image descriptions, I think it depends on the image's purpose and context. The situation I was thinking of was a (subscribed) ad from a local pizza place, where you can see from the subject, sender, etc. who it's about and the image is only really an image to get your attention. When the image itself matters, I agree that it should be described. I should update that point...

@yakkoj Right! I can't believe I left that out! That used to be one of the big things I'd argue for when it came to any kind of formatted email!

I've been using the #OnyxBoox Poke3 as my main ebook reader for a couple of years now, mainly because it's a convenient size, has a clear e-ink display, and can run the Android app for any eBook store. I just wish the touch screen was a bit more responsive. https://kvibber.com/reviews/products/boox-poke3/ There is a newer model -- and another similar-sized reader that's added back physical page-flip buttons -- but it still feels too early to replace the one I have. #eb...

@sohkamyung The one I have is based on Android 10, so a bit old, but still recent enough to support most current apps. They did release a system update in...I think November last year, which was kind of a surprise. I thought the newer models would be further ahead, but apparently they're still using Android 11: https://onyxboox.com/boox_page

New post: Using Thunderbird to Move Email to a New Account Thunderbird can move messages from one IMAP account to another. Just drag and drop! But Gmail makes it a bit more complicated. https://kvibber.com/tech-tips/thunderbird-gmail-move/ #computers #email #thunderbird #google #degoogling #gmail #howTo #techTips #defaang

@tantek.com@tantek.com I think there's a case to be made for deliberately (on the part of the author) ephemeral vs accidentally ephemeral as well. I look through my old social media posts and while some of them are worth preserving, a lot of them aren't. And of course some people don't *want* that permanent record. This is where things like Mastodon's auto-delete feature, and the way you can easily set exceptions to keep some posts online, are useful.

@sohkamyung Very cool! The Page is a bit wider than I expected from the photos on the website, but it's good to know these apps run well on it. So you can map the buttons for each app? That's good. One of the things I'd wondered about is whether they'd work with Libby and so on.

@thomasfuchs And they never seem to admit it was their behavior at fault. They'll always insist that it was some opinion of theirs that the mod is punishing them for, or that the mod just doesn't like them. Same thing, whether it's something as consequential as which political party they vote for more often, or trivial like which version of a superhero is their favorite.

New book review on my website! Fuzzy Sapiens, H. Beam Piper ★★★★☆ Continuing the Mad Men approach to ecological space colonization, this sequel explores the growing pains of a company town becoming a democracy, a corporation losing its monopoly, and two species of people figuring out how to live together. https://kvibber.com/reviews/books/fuzzy-sapiens/ #books #hBeamPiper #scienceFiction #space #colonization #capitalism #corporatism #ecology #review

@dtgeek I don't buy many these days - just the ones I plan on rewatching. Last one I bought at Best Buy (just before they stopped carrying them), and a couple of days ago I preordered Lower Decks S4 from Target.

Finally consolidated my notes on things I've done to get the #PineTab2 working (mostly) the way I want it to. Some gathered from the forums, some that I noticed and/or figured out myself. https://kvibber.com/tech-tips/pinetab2/ #Linux #Tablet #LXQt #arm64 #ArchLinux
