Oireachtas to spend €400k on its own brand of red and white wine for the Dáil
THE HOUSES OF the Oireachtas [Irish Parliament] Commission is set to splash out €400,000 to keep Leinster House stocked with its own brand of mid-range red and white wine. A total of 4,851 glasses and 1,063 bottles were sold in the bar, as well as two whole cases at a cost of €180 each. Employees at...

Christian man sues employer for forcing him to see a Pride flag on his way into work
Department of Public Works employee Eric Batman claims that having to see a Progress Pride flag flying outside the department’s Alhambra, California, headquarters during the month of June effectively forces him to “celebrate, recognize, and solemnize conduct and actions that he views as sin” in conflict with his sincerely held Christian religious beliefs, according to a lawsuit filed in March by anti-LGBTQ+ evangelical nonprofit the Liberty Counsel.

Does anybody actually work from 09:00 to 17:00
"The 9[am] to 5[pm]" is a common term for one's regular job, on the basis that normal people start work at 09:00 and finish at 17:00. I've worked a few jobs and closest I've ever gotten to this is 08:00 to 17:00, which I gather is standard. Are there real jobs where people actually start at 9 and finish at 5?

Saudi liquor store runs short because of Iran war bottleneck
Saudi Arabia's only official alcohol shop has run short of supplies ranging from beer and wine to tequila, as the disruption caused by the Iran war has delayed shipments, visitors to the store said. I agree. This doesn't seem any more egregious than clicking a button on a website that says "I am over 18".

Irish is somewhat similar to how @jeinzi@discuss.tchncs.de describes German. -ín is a diminutive added to the end of a noun. So for example you can have: buachaill (boy) → buachaillín (little boy) bóthair (road) → bóithrín (small road; this one has undergone some mutation because it's such a common word) smidir (fragment) → smidirín (small fragment, hence the English word smithereens) Beag is the word that literally means small, and there are slightly different connotations. Buachaill...

Here's the original I became Senior VP at a multi-million dollar company at age 26. My salary was $600k. This was in 2018. How did I do it? It wasn’t hustle culture. No 5:30am wakeups, cold showers, or productivity hacks. What got me there was a relentless focus on impact. Every project I touched, every deck I built, every presentation I gave MOVED THE NEEDLE. Always, I asked myself: what is the single most valuable contribution I can make to the company right now? And I did that....
