  • OPNSense Reverse Proxies and Giving Internal Services Domain Names?

Heya, I just wanted to post here before doing something that puts my stuff out on the internet for anyone to see 😅 So I have a basic, still in-configuration homelab network going on. It’s Modem --> OPNsense router --> Ubiquiti switch --> Openwrt AP. DNS and DHCP (via Dnsmasq) are working right now, each VLAN (Home Devices, IoT, and Guest) can access the internet. But I’m still tinkering and doing firewall stuff, so sometimes I reactivate the ISP router and switch back to that until I...

  • We need to stop summarizing privacy policies (Reject Convenience)

Another great video from Reject Convenience, you should especially watch the part (7:29 - 10:15) about how specific location data can get with precise location on (spoiler alert: a literal battery width radius, please only allow precise location for your map app 🤢) He also has a great tool he explains throughout the video, his privacy visualizer which you can click as you go through a site’s privacy policy to mark what they collect and how they handle the data (just collected, traded/shared, o...

  • What DeleteMe and Incogni aren't telling you (YT: Reject Convenience)

I just wanted to link to this awesome channel, as I think his videos are educational and very encouraging to help people increase their privacy rather than shaming or scaring them into privacy by making extreme changes. He’s also done videos on VPNs, various privacy policies, dumb phones, cookies & fingerprinting, etc. He hates ads and sponsorships, so that’s another +1 Plus his blender animations are simple and cute, kinda like Miis!

  • I Bought a Linux Phone in 2026

cross-posted from: lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/39351554 Samtime tries out a Fairphone 6 running Ubuntu Touch and it seemed pretty fine. Noted issues were the second camera not working, GPS/Map app being a bit weird, and imo, the screen showing all the apps you have open is terrible. But with the reg app store and waydroid, I think it could be almost managable to use. My mom is a battery life fiend though, so that part she won’t let go of. What’s your thoughts?

Oh so BLM didn’t happen huh? In some cities people literally set fucking buildings on fire, and guess what? It didn’t change shit. Mindless fires, looting, and destruction of property doesn’t mean you’ll magically get the government to care. It gets all the local mom-and-pops to close and the grocery stores to leave, giving you mothing but a food desert. I’m so fucking tired of all the EU people on Lemmy making fun of people for at least getting out there and showing others we should care. S...

Man the custom ROM life just reinforces my idea that stock Android is a fucking nightmare. I use Graphene and it just asks, “Hey, do you want to install this app (+ without network access?” Yes? Neat, it’s on your phone now. The literal only roadblock is enabling installs from non-appstore apps like browser or files, which makes sense. No fear mongering, no developer mode, no wait a day to do it.

Two: having the enter the address in a non-standard way (for the US) City, Street, Building Number, makes finding things even harder. THAT’S why i always struggled to look up buildings on Comaps! Hell, I wondered why the sesrch was so hard! My main issue is the lack of traffic data. I wish I didn’t live in a car-centric society, but i do, so I need to know if the route I’m taking is going to be shit.

I’ve been using YT music anyway, but I recently started using my Navidrome server by just yt-dlp’ing albums + tag with MusicBrainz picard and boom. A bunch of songs I can own until my server burns down. I feel a little bad about pirating, but I’m a college student who hasn’t even gotten a job yet… But I will be buying merch or music off bandcamp in the future when I know I have the budget for it!
