@notjustbikes It's crazy they don't hate the US _more_ to be honest. When I lived in the ass end of nowhere in Ireland (all our neighbours were cows) people would hear my accent and tell me Trump had some great ideas. It never crossed their mind I might not care for him... Edit: I mean there were people too. They owned the cows. Not calling the humans cows...

The Netherlands can suck too! Here's Hilversum saying "it's ok to break the law and park on the sidewalk" https://www.hilversumsnieuws.nl/buurt-wijk/buurt-wijk/372705/hilversum-gedoogt-parkeren-op-stoep-deels-gedogen-waar-het-niet-hinderlijk-is-vermindert-totale-overlast #biketooter #netherlands #fiets #hilversum #urbanism #notjustbikes

@europeanspodcast Honestly I found this frustrating - it always seemed unfair that only people who were already working as artists (who often have wealthy spouses, parents, etc) qualify, while people who would like to be artists, but had to take other jobs to pay bills, couldn't use this program.

@humanhorseshoes @peterbrown @europeanspodcast But Ireland has absolutely horrible bike infrastructure and is generally a terrible place to cycle. It's why my family left (to move to the Netherlands, which is much kinder to kids cycling to school)

@MaikCiveira Not Gen Z but surely being a country that doesn't feel stuck 50 years in the past helps. A visit to Shanghai is eye opening.

@notjustbikes Finding a way to complain about Christmas is pretty Dutch tbf.

@danbrotherston @notjustbikes Oh I know, and to be fair I find the whole "Dutch complain about everything" stereotype a _little_ bit overblown, but I still remember taking my kid to school in Ireland and chatting with a Dutch dad. He said "how's it going" and I said "oh you know, I can't complain" to which he responded with a broad smile and said "There is always SOMETHING to complain about!". It was a good p...

As nice as Houten is, you can live in the "best designed town in the Netherlands (and therefore the world)" (according to @notjustbikes ) and people will STILL complain that they need more than 1 parking spot per home. #bikeTooter #urbanism #dutch #parking
