I was going out to the garage to put a bag of blackberries into the freezer and just before I opened the door I saw this doe relaxing in the shade of our big maple tree and put on the brakes. This young one needs places to take a break and I’m happy she found this spot. #pnw #deer

Followed up the plum jam with 8 jars of blackberry jam today. I had all of the stuff out for jelly but took the easy way out. I feel very blessed to live on a dead end road with family, fruit trees, chickens and a ferocious amount of blackberries.

One of today’s projects was to make some plum jam before the plums I picked went bad. Success! I think I knew this before but I relearned today that jam is basically sugar and pectin with fruit flavouring. #gardening #canning #fruit

@Virginicus@universeodon.com We have some hazel nut trees growing around us but we also have a lot of squirrels who drop off gifts on their travels. I’ll have a close smell tomorrow and see:).

I had one of those memorable #VancouverIsland days recently. A gathering of friends on the beach, salmon cooked around the fire, oysters (tluqw tluqw) picked off the beach and steamed around the fire, clams (s’aqw) steamed under the sand. Veggies were steamed nettles and maple flowers picked from nearby trees. Being fed by the land with food gathered by friends and cooked in traditional ways on the beach. #pnw #indigenous

I bought this old kitchen table and am planning to refinish the surface of it, keeping its old feel but I want to remove the water/heat marks from it. Any suggestions from our #DIY folks appreciated. Thanks!

Over the near 40 years we’ve been together, we have rarely bought new living room furniture. Mostly made due with cast offs from relatives and friends. Yesterday we had a designer measure our living room, gave them a budget and today we get to see what she comes up with. I have no idea what to expect.
