  Have to admit... I do not understand why Valve are running the #steammachine hardware sales the way they are. It makes little sense. I'm currently on a "waitlist" ... meaning they have allocated me a device from the first (only?) batch of production and I just need to wait for an e-mail from them to be able to confirm that I want it and I will pay for it. I must do so within three days of receiving the email, or they will sell 'my' device to someone else. But why? Why no...

  I placed a pre order for the #framework 13 pro and was quick enough to get into Batch 1. That device is now about to ship. The 32Gb of RAM was priced at £439 (!!) ... but since then, the price has now increased to £800. For just the RAM. This is just insane. Given I bought 32Gb DRR4 in 2025 for £55 ... if you're thinking of a computer purchase, do it now.

  My brain just can't American anymore... and I say that as a child of the 80's where every show I watched, every book I read and every catchphrase I ever uttered as a child was from American media... ... but watching a Youtube review of a bum bag (fanny pack, as the North Americans seem to call them) I just cannot understand how one of the reviewers most important features is a "quick draw" for his handgun and compartments for "spare" magazines.

  I bought a 14 year old car two years ago... I was looking for a specific car from a specific time (it's a Suzuki Grand Vitara, so not exactly a 250GTO) and I never bothered to cancel the autotrader alerts. I'm still getting them.   I can predict a few things about the current state of UK politics... Some folks will grandstand. Some folks will lose their jobs. F* all will change. I really don't see the point in ousting Starmer, it's not like the rest of them have their shit together either. And there's no point in an election... as I think the electorate are, by and large, fed up with the lot of them and would rather watch some crap on the telly than walk down to a voting centre and put faith in any of them....

  Why does Fedora need to restart all the time? I have some system updates this morning, I can see an autocorrect library, a lot of perl stuff and some stuff for libreoffice... it's downloaded them and now wants me to restart my computer. Why? When I first started running Mint a few years back, one of the great things was it would apply updates in the background and, generally, only when the kernel was updated did you need to reboot... this feels like a backwards step, especially given...

  Ok, I know it's cool to root for the underdog etc, and I find the Pi's I have to be really useful... but who is still buying these things??? Do yourself a favour, if you need cheap compute power to run something locally, check ebay, CEX, etc to get an old desktop from an office clearance... I just check the price of the, admittedly fairly special, Raspberry Pi 500+ (which I lusted after on it's release but have ZERO use for) and it is currently (out-of-stock) £393.60!!...

  I use a PiKVM for work to control access to a small build lab, they really are excellent little devices and a very cool project - the team are super responsive and helpful on their Discord server. By default, the PiKVM uses an H264 protocol to stream content from the device to your browser... guess what isn't enabled / available in Firefox on Fedora 44 beta ?? #Fedora44Beta #H264 #ComeOnCiscoPackageThisThingAlready

  Currently in Ireland and heading for the ferry back. Heard about possible fuel protests, so we left an hour early just in case. Now sat 10km from the port, our ferry left ten mins ago and we are not due to arrive at the port for another 35 mins. Next ferry in four hours or so, and likely to be over capacity. Thanks, really well done.
