My first reaction to the current #Telstra outage was that they never should have privatised Telstra. Then it occurred to me that this sort of thing would probably still happen - but at least we could get our revenge at the ballot box.

For the first time in my entire working life, I had to spend the first hour of my day surfing the net and twiddling my thumbs whilst our unfortunate IT guy tried to restore my connection to work's remote desktop (for the record, I was in the office at the time.). It's the first time in my life I ever regretted not having my current crochet project on hand whilst I was at work.

To my surprise (and relief) my ancient long johns still fit.

My arthritic knee did not appreciate the long johns yesterday - it was aching and tender by evening. Fortunately, by that time the loungeroom was warm enough that I could take them off.

It's a lot like assembling a Lego kit, except that it's a lot more strenuous. And ultimately causes less clutter, rather than more. I'm going to need a nap this afternoon.

And it's assembled. :blobcatsweats: All that's left now is the tidying up. And that can wait until this afternoon.

I stumbled across Matilda at the Cohen St interchange this morning. Currently, the tow truck she's being put onto is her only means of transport. The mechanic I had a chat with, however, told me that they had acquired a bus of the same model with a working engine, so they're going to try to get the old girl back on the road again. #TransportCanberra #MatildaTheBus #History #PublicTransport

If rose bushes were mythological creatures, they'd be vampires. But at least the damned thing has been pruned now.

    I hope this happens. #History #AusPol https://region.com.au/parliament-to-sit-down-the-hill-next-year-to-mark-100-years-in-canberra/980718/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=daily&utm_campaign=2026-07-11

My favourite utterance today: "I only have one hand free, I can only pet one dog at a time."

Today I ate my first ever Cronut, and I keep thinking of Sherrif Bart's line from Blazing Saddles - "Man! Those schnitzengruben will wipe you out!". :blobcatsleep:

Top shelf of linen cupboard: sorted. There were a few memories in there, from back in my mediaeval reenactment days, along with the fabric stash that I was certain I would learn to use successfully. Oh, well. The half-finished projects are now in the bin (it was 20 years ago. I'm not that size anymore. And the half-made blanket cloak has moth holes in it, too.) and the usable stash is back in the cupboard, for when I am retired and bored shitless.

Second shelf sorted. I found some bath towels and some tablecloths that I had completely forgotten about. And doilies. Crochet has the advantage of being a portable and productive fidget tool. Which is why I have so. Many. Doilies. Not including the ones I inherited from my grandmother.

The bottlebrush in my front yard is in flower, and there is a very vocal wattlebird in it.

There are hot air balloons in the sky this morning. Autumn has begun. #canberra #autumn

I was watching a car detailing video on YouTube with a seriously disgusting vehicle, and it occurred to me that Arnold Rimmer is probably a frustrated car detailer. And the vehicle I was just watching being cleaned might well have belonged to Dave Lister. Which in turn made me wonder just how much time Rimmer spent cleaning up after Lister in their shared quarters... 🤮 #RedDwarf

I will grant you that scotch is supposed to taste peaty, and that peat is supposed to taste like smoke. But really - this much? Mind you, that hazard reduction burn that's being done on Yass Rd (according to the ESA map) might have something to do with it...

I've been Fantasy Modern-Worldbuilding (it's an alternative to creative workplace murder because my colleagues are still more interesting than that) with some assistance from NotebookLM, and it made a fascinating point: if all these magical items (scrolls, potions, wands, etc) have to be created by a magical person with a specific purpose in mind - who is making them? Who are the wizards (or whatever) creating them? Is there a factory floor with Level-whatever magic users who...

IMO what the ACT needs most is a Department of Stakeholder Engagement, aka a department of talking to people.
