  I have met two kinds of French people this trip: 1. I want to communicate with you. Thank you for making it easier by speaking French. 2. I want to show I am superior to you. I will not speak French with you and I am mad at you for trying to talk to me in my native language. There have been many more of the first group than the second so far. It helps that my teachers taught me a Parisian accent, back in the day.

  This is my week for unexpected opera treatments. Tonight is the Opéra National de Paris and their production of Hamlet. This plot is wack. Gertrude and Polonius were in on the murder plot. The Ghost is dressed as a mime or clown, in white with sparkles. Hamlet appears genuinely mad with no cunning. Or maybe he just can’t act? Let’s see what the ending brings. The singing is lovely. #Opera

  My cat had been deaf for the last few years of his life, but he could tell I was talking to him when he looked at me, so I kept the habit of talking to the cat. It's going to take me some time to get out of the habit, even though the cat IS NOT THERE ANYMORE to talk to. #Grief #Loss #Cats

  Today I stumbled across a show on PBS about Judi Dench. Well, Judi Dench is amazing, so I started watching it. I found myself put off by watching three men dissect many of her film roles, and gave up halfway through. Yeah, there were no women commentating. I found myself resenting these men talking purely about the acting, and not at all about the 20-year gap between her first films (when she played an ingenue) and the bulk of her film career, where she played an older woman.   The #OaklandRoots soccer team is playing at the Oakland Coliseum tonight. That rusting decaying pile of concrete is where I truly learned to love sports.   Months ago I saw a gorgeous painting by @TishaPaints and I fell in love with it. I told myself I would use it as a motivation to finish the computer security class I was taking, and then pass the certification exam.
