My wife and I have been birding for a couple of years and have been trying to hone our photo skills at the same time....with uneven success.

Happy #Wrensday! #birds #BackyardBirding #nature This Northern House Wren has been chattering all summer and has done a marvelous job of avoiding being seen. I finally caught one of them at the neighbors gourd house.

I spent a fair bit of time snapping shots of a Gray-headed Swamphen as it worked through reeds and undergrowth getting mostly crappy pictures. Then, a few minutes later, this one walked right out to the edge of the road. #birds #birding #nature

A little bonus on the way to a birding location, we came across this Red-headed Woodpecker just off the edge of the road. #birds #birding #nature

Winter Wren Typically skulky, but there were two calling back and forth on our recent walk. This one popped up and posed for a bit. #birds #birding #nature #Wrensday

Good news is I was able to go back to our favorite Snow Goose migration spot, bad news is the weather was crap. Cloudy, gray and damp. So, no great pictures, but I'll post a couple anyway. #birds #birding #nature #waterfowl The weekend I was there, staff estimated 65,000 Snow Geese, 2200 Canada Geese and 1000 Tundra Swan.

A few weeks ago, we still had partial snow cover, but the birds were hanging around the exposed grassy areas. I came upon this Northern Mockingbird doing a wing-flash while foraging. #birds #birding #nature

Picked up a "lifer" for us early in the year. Lapland Longspur trudging across the frozen tundra.... well, not exactly the tundra. The heavy snowfall in the Mid-Atlantic hung around for weeks and this bird and a Horned Lark were moving along the edge of the road where a small strip of grass was visible. #birds #birding #nature

The past two days were hovering around 80° F. Then today...snow. Here's a shot from a couple of weeks ago when we still had snow everywhere. Northern Cardinal #birds #BackyardBirding #nature
