Last week myself and five others went on a 400+km / 260 mile cycle tour around Central England. The route was Derby - Daventry - Cirencester - Derby. Due to excellent planning most of the climbing was done by lunchtime each day. We had a coffee stop in the morning and ice cream in the afternoon. We found a couple of nice cafes, Culworth and Northleach were the groups favourite. Nice weather with an overnight downpour on Tuesday. #BikeTooter

Caught Google AI out this evening (I avoid Google and AI as a rule). Chatting to herself trying to recall a French bike packing racer but the name did not come to me. She asked Google AI for some names. But, it came out with a person I did not know as winner of #tcr no7. I said Fiona Kohlbinger won that race and she challenged AI. It was incredibly apologetic and admitted it had made a mistake. Not important in the scheme of things but confirms my lack of trust in it. Got the name I was after.

On this morning's spin I put in an effort on 4.4km stretch of fairly quiet road. Strava told me I had done a PB so I looked at the segment. Over 4,000 other riders were quicker than me so I decided to look at the old gits (65+) and I was just outside the top 100. But, the fella two seconds quicker than me, with an unusual Italian name, is almost certainly someone I went to primary school with who I haven't seen since 1970. We are both still localish #BikeTooter

Currently reading Gillian O’Brien’s excellent book ‘The Darkness Echoing’. In it she mentions how a 14 year old boy in 1854 was locked up for three days for annoying passengers by shooting marbles. A bit harsh but I would consider it an acceptable sentence for peeps who play their phone loud on trains.

Finally my first Audax of the season, the 104km Charnwood in the Spring event this afternoon. Total distance was 137.5km by the time I had ridden to and from the start. Felt slow all day although I did achieve my regular Audax pace. Wind on the way home picked up and brought almost to a standstill on a couple of occasions. Nice rest now.

Happening in Derby on Saturday from 10am to 4pm. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cgk027rpeelo (The photo used is NOT Derby, surely something local could have been found) #derby
