Raytheon and Lockheed are worried Ukraine could build a better Patriot for less. They've had the tech for decades and never managed either themselves. An unnamed Republican official told The Atlantic this is the real reason Washington hasn't licensed Ukraine to manufacture Patriot interceptors: fear Ukrainians would improve it and undercut US costs. If the worry is really reverse engineering, owning a handful of Patriots already gets you there. No factory needed. #Ukraine #Defense #US

In under three weeks, Ukraine has struck over a dozen Wildberries warehouses, damaging one of Russia's biggest non-oil companies. That's pushing the government toward a bailout it can't easily afford. Wildberries carries roughly $17.6 billion in debt, and a Russian oligarch has warned its collapse could cascade through the banking system. The bond market is already failing, four straight auctions canceled or undersubscribed in July, yields above 16.5%. #Ukraine #Russia

Texas hasn't elected a Democrat statewide since 1994, when Ann Richards lost to George W. Bush. But something's shifting: Abbott's 2022 margin (10.9%) was already down from 13.3% in 2018 — the closest Texas governor's race since 2006. Now a new TPOR poll has Democrat James Talarico leading Republican Ken Paxton 45%-40% in the Senate race, his widest margin yet. → Follow @AutokratDaily@mastodon.social for your daily autocracy briefing. @randahl@mastodon.social The layer that makes it funnier: the goal was federal control over elections, using documents meant to prove foreign interference against him. Instead, his own DNI's paper trail confirms Russia ran a coordinated campaign to help elect him — "with US officials," per the text. He built the case for federal oversight using evidence that he was the beneficiary, not the victim, of exactly what he's warning about. #politics
