From the "how could this ever work" department, TIL: OpenSSL also uses the supplied CA pool for completing client chains if necessary (and many tools don't really allow you to distinguish between the two, so you end up having to put in client intermediates into the pool that is used to verify server certs. Not much of a problem if your PKI is sane, but still unelegant)

As someone who has involuntarily descended into the timescales mines, I want to thank the author of https://blog.dave.tf/post/tai64-is-not-tai/ for assuring me that I haven't gone insane.

Whenever I'm trying to use something like redshift it always feels like https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Berserk which is somewhat antithetical to its intended function of improving my sleep.

Currently using an iOS device again until a new Android phone arrives tomorrow and it’s amazing how cleanly this seems to split the population. iOS is absolutely *infuriating* to use for me to the point that I’m cursing out loud all the time. It’s exactly the same with Android for some of my friends.

Any recommendations for (outdoor) security cameras with night vision that I can just firewall off into a VLAN with no internet access or even better have FOSS aftermarket firmware? Everything I can find that ticks the latter mark in particular is unobtainium in Germany apparently

Having some fun with 802.11p on a ESP32-C5 (custom FW, but the feature was discovered by https://opentrafficmap.org/). Sadly, the traffic lights next to my apartment don't broadcast anything :(

Shower thought: Since the radius of of geostationary orbit goes up by the third root of planetary mass and planetary mass goes up by the third power of radius, the ratio between the radius of a planet and its GEO is actually constant for different planets of equal sidereal day length and average density

This Quectel GNSS receiver booted up reporting 31°18'22.7"N 120°31'30.7"E as the location. I wonder if this is where the EOL test happened or if it's some random default somebody set. (Or the middle ground: The random position somebody put into their test signal generator)

Quick hack since I've been staring at lots of 64bit pointer values today: Colorized %p for printf(): https://gist.github.com/florolf/55ea7660bdfd737eb788dd7f4fa4ee86
