Derek Chauvin (Floyd's murderer) lived in Oakdale, which is not only not neither in Minneapolis but two counties removed from his jurisdiction. Someone from my high school became a police officer himself (not a friend), and his wife confided their living outside of Coon Rapids, which is — falling into the same category I mentioned — is also yet another county removed. This kind of thing is a trope among locals …
