I think the large difference in numbers between males and females in the age groups under 35 is much more alarming than the increasing number of elderly people. I skimmed the article, but it doesn't seem to address this at all.
What is going on here?

@paelse@mastodon.online I know where you’re coming from as we see a lot of these population charts as male vs female, but this particular chart is showing the age as a percentage of population regardless of gender with the left being the population distribution in 1990 and the right being 2023. So that large difference you are seeing is how the extremely young population distribution in 1990 became very old only 33 years later.
